Letters to the Editor Published: February 10, 2010 Now we know who to blame Dear Editor, After listening to the White House for over a year, I now know that the recent two snow storms are former President Bush’s fault. I also know who is to blame for the earthquake in Haiti. Roger Honaker
Dear Editor, The proposed site for the Walmart is zoned for commercial development and could greatly enhance local commerce and bring employment opportunities to Powhatan. I for one am tired of driving to Chesterfield for my groceries and other goods Walmart sells —it’s time we have our own Walmart. Phyllis Proffitt |

In reading the Walmart economic impact study from the homepage, I can’t help but see that the project would generate about $700,000 a year in tax revenue for the County. That number is almost exactly the same as the budget shortfall for the school system. We need to diversify our tax base or we will end up paying significantly higher property taxes over time. Why should we send our tax dollars to Chesterfield to support their schools? deloris hickman of midlothian/disputanta

Thank goodness the BOS unanimously supports WalMart in Powhatan. When my daughter gets back from Afghanistan, maybe she can get a job there. c. dickson of midlothian/powhatan

The WalMart opponents in Powhatan must have been very encouraged when Mr. There-will-be-no-WalMart-in-Powhatan Bustos was appointed to the Board of Supervisors. Yvonne W of Powhatan

Building a Walmart will deteriorate our community and destroy Powhatan’s scenic highways. Every Walmart deteriorates communities and destroies scenic highways. Perfect Examples Have you been to these areas lately? Need I mention more? It’s less than 12 miles to a Walmart from Powhatan. That is almost too close for me. It’s about as close as Ukrops (soon to be Martin’s). I moved to Powhatan to get away from all the hustle and bustle, I love it here the way it is, without a Walmart. Roscoe Cabell of Upper Ballsville

Rog…I’m with you. Bush presided over the greatest era of economic expansion our great country has ever seen and the economy was moving full steam ahead when he left office. A year of Obama and look where we’re at! Submit Your Comments Below |
