Former candidate for treasurer offers thanks to community for support

Dear Editor,
The final numbers only give us the tally for the election, but the real winner is the person who truly feels that they did all the right things during the election process. Being a neophyte to the election process, I did not know which way to turn to start and to fulfill my campaign promise, which was to give the citizens of Powhatan County a choice – as well as a person who had the background and credentials to be a top flight Treasurer. Along the way, I had numerous people who gave me sage advice and helped me move in the right direction. These include many members of the Powhatan Republican party, who are way too numerous to mention here. Also high on the list were the members of POWR, whose invaluable assistance, advice, phone banking, and door to door activity helped me tremendously. I also want to thank the students at Powhatan high school, who were there on numerous occasions to help me along. My good friend Steve Thompson was right with me knocking on doors virtually every day. To my wife and family, I thank you the most for all your love and encouragement as I strove to run a good solid campaign. Thanks for putting up with me. My wife can truly run a campaign of any size. She did a superb job of organizing the process. Finally, thank you to the almost three thousand citizens who saw fit to vote for me on November 8th. As stated in the beginning, the final tally only tells part of the story. I discovered a lot of people who believed in me, supported me, and voted for me. For that alone, I am truly a winner!

Veterans Day program once again a success

Dear Editor,
Guildfield Baptist Church would like to thank the community for its support of our 2nd annual Veteran’s Day program. It was a blessing to honor our veterans who have served our country in uniform and to acknowledge the sacrifices they have made. We would also like to thank Mrs. Ruth Boatwright (and her neice) for attending and sharing their uplifting spirits. We salute you!

Yours in Christ,
Guildfield Baptist ChurchVeteran’s Day Program committee
