4H News Published: October 06, 2008 Contributed report The Powhatan 4-H Shooting Club recently traveled to Holiday Lake 4-H Center in Appomattox, Virginia for the State 4-H Shooting Championship September 12-14. More than 150 youth represented 11 teams from counties throughout the Commonwealth. Travis Wagner was Powhatan’s top scoring senior for the weekend, finishing with first place in shotgun. He also shot a perfect score of 25 on the skeet field which was determined following a shoot-off among the top three placing seniors in the shotgun division. Travis earned another first for small-bore rifle silhouette and second for inline muzzleloader. Junior team member Anthony Schaapman took first place in archery with a score that has never been obtained before at the state shoot. He scored a whopping 490 out of 500 in the compound bow division. Anthony also took first in the junior inline muzzleloader, as well as second for three position small-bore rifle and silhouette. Austin Braswell earned first place for .22 caliber pistol senior division. In the archery compound bow senior division, Jonathan Fagan took first place, while Gavin Rowe placed second. Junior individual award winners included Brent Kropp taking second place for traditional muzzleloader, Hunter Rowe earned second for archery in the compound bow division and Megan Ragland receiving third place for inline muzzleloader. Other team members who participated in the State Shoot representing the Powhatan 4-H Shooting Club are Brad Bateman, Candis Bateman, Donnie Brown, Joshua Fagan, Emily Lipp, Corbin Glunt and Rachel Schaapman. Also taking home awards: According to parent Jill Kropp, “All the club members know this could not be possible without the time and dedication of our wonderful coaches and parents.” |
