James Lee Wolfe Sr., the Amelia man suspected of robbing, abducting, and brutally beating a Powhatan woman earlier this week, was arraigned in Powhatan General District Court this morning. He has been charged with five felonies: breaking and entering with the intent to rob, robbery, arson, aggravated malicious wounding, and abduct

According to reports from the Powhatan and Chesterfield police departments, Wolfe, 29, forced his way into the victim’s home in the 2100 block of Academy Road around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, where he beat her with a blunt object and cut her with a sharp instrument. He then set fire to her couch before forcing her out of the house and into his vehicle. He drove her to the Midlothian area of Chesterfield County where he had her to withdraw $400 from an ATM, and then left her on the side of Route 60, near the Chesterfield Towne Center. She was found on the roadside by a passerby and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

According to the Anne Reynolds, crime analyst for the Powhatan Sheriff’s Office, the victim, who is a woman in her 50’s, is described by hospital staff as being in “serious condition.” Her injuries include cuts, bruises, a broken arm, and a possible skull fracture.

Reynolds said that as far as the Sheriff’s Department can tell the victim did not know her attacker and said the incident appears to be “a random act of violence.”

Wolfe is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear back in court in Powhatan on March 16 at 11 a.m.

Powhatan Today will release more details about this case as they become available.

I actually see the deputies, sheriff and state troopers patrolling or at least driving on my street often, and I live about 2 miles from Academy.

thank you to the community of Powhatan! from Mary’s sister, Margaret…..I live in Pa now, but lived in Powhatan for 2 years with Mary…..we are humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support shown for Mary and her children who live in the area. She is slowly regaining her strength, and overcoming the many injuries inflicted. She has a great determination to get through this experience and remain positive! thank you all for your kind comments…..look out for your neighbors….and if you see strange acting people such as this man was in the parking lot of the Food Lion in the days before this happened…..please…call the local police; they may have been able to get this guy out of the area had they been alerted to his aggressive behavior in the plaza stores….who knows? We are grateful for the police efforts after the attack; they did a completely awesome job of locating him and getting him OFF THE STREETS!!! Now, we await the trial, so all support is still appreciated to make sure he STAYS IN JAIL!!!!!!! Thank you, Margaret Anderson Patton, Washington, Pa.

Naw, the deputies were too busy sitting at Sheetz or were on one of their famous “let’s see who can get from one county line to the other” runs.  Don’t think that happens?  Crawl out from under your rock and just ask one of the deputies one night when they are at Caddy’s getting tanked.

Blaming the Sheriff’s office for not being able to prevent this is beyond unreasonable. Law Enforcement tracked this monster down quickly and put him where he belongs.

What more can we ask of them ? How fortunate the end result wasn’t worse.

Mr. Kodak,

Do you really think that the deputies of this county do not patrol our neighborhoods? Should they call you to let you know when they are going to drive by your residence so that you can wave to them? Are you awake after 10pm on a regular schedule, watching out of your window to make sure that your street is being patrolled? I’m guessing not, so please stop making ignorant comments. We should all be praying for Mary and hoping that this criminal gets a harsh sentence. We don’t want to read your nonsense.

How tragic however, Mr. Kodak as a relative of a deputy, I can tell you these men and women do there part to serve the citizens of Powhatan County.  If there were accidents resulting in fatalities along Rt. 60 or Rt. 288 it would be blamed on the sheriff’s department.  perhaps you should refocus your disapproval on the piece of trash who committed the offense!  I am proud of the deputies that serve this county and thank them for their missed meals, holidays with families and numerous hours spent doing their part for citizens (even for ungrateful ones).  Thoughts are with the victim and her family.

My prayers go out to her.  She is a very compassionate human being and teacher.  I hope this low life gets the maximum sentence.  I hope the community comes together for her and family.
