Attorney says 17-year-old charged with murder was not the shooter

In a statement released this morning, the attorney for the teen charged in the murder of Tahliek Taliaferro said his client did not fire the shots that killed the 18-year-old Powhatan High School student.

Attorney Jason Moore said that, contrary to statements made earlier this week by Commonwealth’s Attorney Bob Beasley, his client, Joseph Parrish, 17, left, was not the shooter in the June 24 incident that also left another teenager seriously wounded.

Moore said Beasley made his statement based on the facts that were available at the time, but that more information has come to light since then.

Concerning threats that have been directed towards Parrish’s family, Moore said that people should avoid making judgments until they hear the facts of the case themselves.

“The media and public should avoid speculation, and allow the criminal justice system to run its course,” said Moore.  “Judgment in this matter should be withheld until the investigation is completed and all parties have exercised their rights under the criminal justice system.”

Moore was appointed as Parrish’s attorney by the court on Monday. He had previously represented the teen in a juvenile court matter.

It was also determined Monday that Parrish will be tried as an adult on first degree murder and malicious wounding charges.

His cousin Ethan Parrish, 24, and Stephanie Reynolds, 19, are facing the same charges stemming from Taliaferro’s death.

All three are being held without bond and are expected to appear in court on August 27 for a preliminary hearing.

Mandy and Jennifer, I know your family the parishes personally and I know they all are a bunch of hateful people that really hate blacks!!!  This was and will be tried as a hate crime.  I hope all three of them burn in hell!!!  My God, they shot the guy with a freakin AK-47!!!! You must be an idiot if you can’t see that is hate!  So get off the internet and stop acting like the Parishes are the nicest and strongest family around, you are wrong!!!Most people in this area will join with the Taliaferros to see that justice will be served…Life without parole for all three!!!! Sorry, I just don’t believe in the death penalty!

Again anger is lashing out. Accusations are flying before all the facts are known, fingers are pointing, racism is being screamed. Unless any of us were there we don’t know what happened. Opinions are being based on hearsay and hurt feeling’s. I have heard sooo many rumors…drugs, hate crime, lovers spat, you name it. I have a hard time seperating truth from fiction.
Let all the families mourn their losses without us adding insult to injury.
By the way…I have yet heard anyone raise the question…where the hell did 3 teenagers get the guns?? Am I the only one concerned?

Both Jennifer & Mandy I would LOVE to hear why they lit up the side of Biscuits car with 40-50 bullets that is somewhat justified. Your little cousin Joey just has a problem with running his mouth to someone he knew he should not mess with & he knew that if Tahliek got a hold of him that would be it.
He took the cowardly way out of the situation. Nothing justifies killing someone so I am so excited to here what is going to come out in court, since I know all 5 of the witnesses who were there that day & everything I have heard has been directly pointed to your family members.
Maybe you should get off the internet, go visit your family, & try to help them because obviously they need help & you all sitting here complaining about people talking about them does not do them a bit of good.
Sorry about it, thats just my realistic viewpoint.

im trying girl..and i love you and thanx for being here for us. it just blows my mind how people are saying the things they are saying when they have no idea. its ok cuz pretty soon they will feel stupid! we know the truth and thats all that matters. my cousin and brother are two of the nicest people you will ever meet! and for those who really think its a hate crime and that they will get the death penalty ..think again,my family wont let that happen! we are the strongest family ever and we will all make it threw this!

In my honest opinion, I don’t care who was the person who actually pulled the trigger. All three of them are guilty because all three of them had this planned. No one can say Stephanie did not know, you must be kidding-multiple guns in the car-she knew. The three of them need to be put away for a long time because its people like them that make this world a scary place to live in.
I bet after they did it, they sat around & thought to themselves, what in the hell did we just do? You should have thought about it before you went & killed someone who was actually going to do something great with their life.
As for Joey he should have been kept right where they had him after he got in trouble the first time. I feel bad for them, they ruined the rest of there lives-Ethans daughter is going to grow up & wonder why her father isn’t around & thats a shame.
It hurts me to know that people like this run around the school system & come up with lame excuses for why they are the way they are. THEY ARE MEAN & HATEFUL!

It’s sad how people are so bias before they know what is going on. And Mandy is right. Leave our family alone. Calling this a ‘hate crime’ is crazy. Do you not think if it was a hate crime they would have used ALL THREE GUNS and completely unloaded them??? Get real. They were two boys, meeting their family to go hang out and got in a bad situation. Let it go and let things work themselves out into the public. Once things get released, some of you will shut up and set down REAL quick.

Mandy - Just ignore the rude, immature remarks hun. I’m gritting my teeth and eating their words because when they know what we know, things will change.
