A Green Bay, Virginia man with a history of assaulting family members was taken into custody after a judge in Powhatan Circuit Court found him guilty of his third domestic assault charge in 20 years.

The victim, Jennifer Dehart, said on the night he assaulted her, Derrick Wayne Van Hoose, her child’s father, was waiting in her driveway when she arrived home from work at about 9 p.m.

Dehart said Van Hoose wanted to see his child. After the child fell asleep, Van Hoose punched and stomped on Dehart when she told him she was dating someone, the victim testified.

“He was outraged,” Dehart said.

A sheriff’s deputy who was sent to investigate at Dehart’s Genito Road home said there were “obvious signs of assault.” In a statement that was stricken from the court record, Deputy Tim Nice said Dehart’s injuries indicated “extreme assault.”

Van Hoose’s lawyer, Ron Gore, offered witnesses, including Van Hoose’s mother, who said they were with Van Hoose during the time he allegedly committed the crime. Gore suggested Dehart was framing his client for injuries he didn’t cause.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Beasley said Dehart – who suffered “significant” injuries, including a bruise on her arm that resembled a footprint, according to the prosecutor – has no reason to lie.

“The only alternative is she beat the day lights out of herself to frame him,” Beasley told Judge James F. D’Alton.

Van Hoose, who was convicted of assault in Powhatan Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in 2005 and 2007, was convicted of felony assault Feb. 11. His bond was revoked ahead of a sentencing hearing.

Before you automatically assume there must be something fishy just because of the victims last name I would like to draw your attention to the part of the artical that mentions the fact that this is this idividuals third offense and he has a history of domestic assault. Obviously someone has some issues keeping their hands to themself.

THANK YOU POWHACLOWN, I’M SO GLAD TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE NOTICES THE CORRUPTION IN THE SO CALLED JUSTICE SYSTEM, FROM THE NEWEST DEPUTY ON UP TO THE JUDGES IN POWHATAN!!!!!  “IT’S NOT WHAT YOU KNOW~IT’S WHO YOU KNOW”.  IT’S JUST COMMON SENSE!!!!!

Resident, Curious….Your right to assume this is fishy.  I mean ya probably just read the article below this one.  Where the “woman” obviously had the Powhatan pedigree and was released after her second drunken assault on her own daughter. And god forbid this woman’s name is mentioned like anyone else could expect.  All the sudden it’s an issue to protect the identity of the victim.  We’re the victims.  We’re the victims of Beasley’s ego and his pathetic responsibility to prosecute fairly as we pay him.  This midget will not do his job responsibly.  In these two cases.  The Van Hoose fellow and the “woman”.  You would expect similar prosecutions.  Look at how different.  This is everyday with Beasley and his assistant midget.  The problem is the paper only reports random cases.  Tells enough of the story.  People like columnist Mike Willams watch this and are just dying to take the brakes off of Junior.  It’s an embarrassment to the county.  i wish we would get rid of Beasely and send him back to passin the plate around.  Ya know.  Lookin at what’s on facebook, I think Junior wants to run for state attorney general.  I’ll vote for him.  Anything to get him out of Powhatan.

When I first caught glimpse of the article and saw the victim’s last night, I wondered about the relationship.

To “CURIOUS”, what motivation would she have had to lie or harm herself (or have someone harm her to accuse him)  I truly don’t know anything about this than this article so I was wondering if you could elaborate.

Yo Holmes no. You haven’t been in prison that long. Caps are still legal unless you bust one upside someone’s head. They do make you appear to be screaming however. Maybe being behind bars for a while makes you want to scream. Next time you get out, try to keep your nose clean. And for God’s sake don’t spit on any guards while you’re in there.

I bet you didn’t know that there are two different DeHart families in Powhatan!!!  Perhaps you should check that out before you assume that something else went on. You know what they say about folks who assume things…..
