Christmas tree recycling will be available to residents until Jan. 31

Contributed report

Are you one of the millions of Americans who (we’re just guessing here, of course) still haven’t taken the Christmas tree down? Or maybe it’s sitting outside in the yard, because you’re just not sure what to do with it.

Here is a solution for you.

The Powhatan Anti-Litter Council is happy to partner with Yard Works again this holiday season to offer Christmas tree collection and recycling free of charge to local residents. Trees may be brought to the Yard Works in Powhatan, located at 1990 Anderson Highway, between Jan. 5 and 31, 2009. Hours for tree drop-offs are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to noon.

Trees will be ground into mulch.

Robbie Urbine of Yard Works asks residents to please make sure trees are free of all lights, tinsel and ornaments. For more information call Yard Works at (804) 639-0311 or the Powhatan Extension Office at (804)598-5640.
