Cios to speak at Virginia Defense Force meeting
Published: January 16, 2008

Contributed Report

Many Virginians don’t realize that when the Virginia National Guard is deployed overseas, we still have forces ready to defend Virginia here at home.

They are the Virginia Defense Force – the official in-state reserve to the Virginia National Guard.

With the increased manpower pressure from the War on Terror, we need more volunteers. Volunteers do not need prior military experience, and may be between 17 and 64. Volunteers have an opportunity to serve in-state one day a month and during emergencies.

Security Company of the George Washington Division will meet at the Powhatan National Guard Armory on Jan. 26 at 9 a.m.

Carolyn Cios, Powhatan’s County Administrator, will be the guest speaker.

The public is invited to this meeting and Ms. Cios will answer questions related to the County Administrator’s duties.

Membership in the Virginia Defense Force will also be available for individuals who wish to join.

For info or to join, call George T. Lee, III at 804-598-7922 or Stuart Townes at 804-598-7767.
