0 CommentsPublished: January 07, 2009 • YMCA’s 10K team orientation will be Jan. 12 The Powhatan YMCA will be holding an orientation meeting for the 10k Training team on Jan. 12 at 6:30pm. The training team is a ten week program that helps prepare participants to run or walk the annual Ukrop’s Monument Ave, 10 K on March 28. All fitness levels are welcome to be part of the team. Those who take part recive a detailed written schedule, guidance from experienced coaches, organized weekly group runs/walks, and a special YMCA 10K training team shirt. The first training team walk/run will take place on Saturday, Jan. 17th at 8 a.m. at the Powhatan YMCA on Mann Road. For more information, contact the YMCA at (804) 598-0250. • Stanbeck chosen as PHS Student of the Month Powhatan High School senior Crispen Stanback has been recognized as the school’s student of the month for November. Stanbeck was chosen for, among other qualities, his willingness to help others. Teachers report he is often seen helping to clean up the cafeteria at the end of his lunch, unasked, and that his positive attitude and enthusiasm are infectious. In addition to his studies, Stanbeck participates in the PHS Quiz Bowl team. • Anti-Litter Council, Yard Works, offering tree recycling The Powhatan Anti-Litter Council is happy to partner with Yard Works again this holiday season to offer Christmas tree collection and recycling free of charge to local residents. Trees may be brought to the Yard Works in Powhatan, located at 1990 Anderson Highway, between Jan. 5 and 31, 2009. Hours for tree drop-offs are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to noon. Trees will be ground into mulch.
