Christopher Walton Jr. was on his way to class inside Beaumont Juvenile Detention Center last year when a guard stopped him for a routine search. The inmate wouldn’t comply so the guard conducted a more thorough strip search. In the process, a small amount of marijuana – 1.6 grams – was found.  The source of the drugs turned out to be the young man’s father, Christopher N. Walton Sr.

Walton Jr., 19, who cooperated with the prosecution’s case against his father, was offered a plea deal May 13 that reduced felony drug possession by an inmate to misdemeanor possession of marijuana. A 12-month jail sentence was suspended entirely.

Walton Sr., a resident of Mechanicsville, in February pleaded guilty to delivering drugs to an inmate, a class 5 felony, and was sentenced to a month in jail.

Let’s not be too hard on Dad. He was just trying to make things better in jail for his son than they were when he was in jail. After all, isn’t that what all us Dads try to do? But nooooooo. They’re so strict there that you can’t even slip your son a doobie on his birthday without hime getting a full blown cavity search on his way back to your suite. Geeeeezzzz….
