Domestic dispute leads to fatal shooting Published: April 22, 2009 By Michael Copley, Staff Writer Sources at the Sheriff’s Office say they do not expect charges to be filed against a juvenile who shot and killed a man Saturday night on Ridge Road. Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ann Reynolds said a woman reported a domestic altercation between her and her brother to 911 Saturday at 11 p.m. A short time later, 911 received a second call saying shots had been fired. The juvenile reportedly fired the weapon defending his mother during the domestic assault. Powhatan Rescue pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Officials are not releasing information on the gun at this time and are withholding the victim’s and juvenile’s names for the sake of the juvenile, officials say. |

Jamaal, my thoughts and prayers are with your family. I have so many fond memories of Tony its like he was apart of my own family as well. I will never forget the day that Jamaal first introduced me to Tre’, he is one of the sweetest kids a person could ever meet. I am so proud of the person that you (Jamaal) have become and the faith that you can show in the midst of pain. Continue to be there for your mother she needs you more than ever and don’t let people nor media change your additude. SAM

Jamaal… I am very sorry for your loss. Let me just say I have been on calls with the police and on a death investigation. This was a crime scene at the time and they did not want you to enter it and your mother was a witness. Try not to hold that against them It is their job and that is how it is done. You sound like you care for this child and I hope if you are able, you teach him the right way in life. At my age I hope I never have to pull the trigger of my gun on another human. I just can’t imagine what he must be going through. Good thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! Jamaal of Powhatan

I am Tony’s brother and Tre’s uncle. I hear alot of what people are saying and it seems like everybody is taking someone’s side at some point. I, on the other hand do not take any ones side. My brother and sister have been fighting all of their lives. They never forgave each other for things that have happen and simply blame each other for why things are so messed up. Nobody wanted to blame themselves. My Nephew Tre’ grew up in the middle of our families disputes, learning how to hate. Tre’ is 12 years old. Not 11 or 13. He is also smart for his age. He is a product of his environment and now a statistic. This is what happens when a child plays shooting games and spends his time in front of a TV. I am just stating facts. I love my family and I forgive them all but I will not take sides when everything could of been prevented. The person I feel for the most is my mother. Her first born died in her arms. She had to watch her son get killed by her grandchild. I want her to know it is not her fault because she showed me how to love and how to forgive and she tried to show them the same. That is what kept me from holding grudges and acting off of hate. I just wish my siblings could understand that. I grew up in the midst of the turmoil in our house. Sometimes having to break up fights myself. Yes, sometimes I fought with my siblings but I never hated them to the point I wanted to kill them. Nobody is perfect. So to the people so quick to judge, Just know that the most high is the only one to judge and have the last say. Justice will be served through him and not just on my family but to the people who talk about my family and then smile in our face. Just know I see you and so does the most high. The lessons that should be learned; For one…always forgive. Two, Watch what we say and do around our children. Three, Spare the rod with our children. To the Powhatan police. I am very upset how I was treated when I wanted to see my mother at the scene of the crime. I asked to see my mother politely to comfort her and I was asked if I wanted to be arrested. Powhatan has a long way to go. Everything happens for a reason so I hope everyone learns something from this experience. I know I have. I also hope my family can come together and Love one another. Like I said, everything happens for a reason. chesterfieldst of chesterfield

Here we go again, This child is a product of his enviroment. Yes, the victim was a very nice guy I am related to them too I am very sadden to here this all of them have gone through alot. they were messed up from way back..yes the mother she should be accountable for some of this and whoever said she didn’t live there where did she live? she said she was moving out that day then again she is into so much who knows she might been on the street. when your entire family is messed up what you think going to happen to the child! come on let’s be for real I am so sick and tired of the parents being put up like they are such great parents…this case and other cases in Powhatan none of these parents are raising these kids and the mother my God if you from Powhatan unles you were there who knows if she didn’t cause the entire mess. another scare on the Powhatan.
