Powhatan Today received a call from a county resident this morning who was concerned about VDOT removing signs from the medians on Route 60 before the election is over.
A source from VDOT has told us that crews will in fact be removing the signs, and that those signs were technically not supposed to be there in the first place.

While it’s commonly understood that VDOT will remove any sign that presents a traffic hazard, our source told us that it is actually illegal to place any signs in the VDOT right of way.

For all of those who will be taking down their own signs in the days to come, there is an eco-friendly option this year. A clearly marked receptacle will be located behind Frisby’s restaurant from Nov. 7-11 for residents to recycle signs.
