Jr. High threat case solved By Roslyn Ryan
May 07, 2008 According to a letter sent to parents by School Superintendent Dr. Margaret S. Meara on May 1, the student responsible for a bomb threat made against Powhatan Junior High School has been identified and has confessed. On April 30, parents had been notified of a threat found written on the wall of a girl’s bathroom the previous afternoon. That writing reportedly indicated that the school would be bombed on Friday, May 3. A letter was also sent to parents of the neighboring building, Powhatan Elementary School, advising them of the situation. By the following day, however, school officials had identified the student responsible and determined that there was no danger. Plans to do a sweep of the school with bomb detective dogs were subsequently cancelled. “Mr. Dick Stewart, Principal, First Sgt. Tim Wright, School Resource Officer and the staff at Powhatan Junior High School are to be commended for resolving this issue,” Meara wrote. “They did superb work.” (0) Comments • Email This Article |
