Local orchid aficionado heading Down Under Published: August 27, 2008 Contributed report Art Chadwick, president of Chadwick & Son Orchids Inc, will be discussing “Large Flowered Cattleya Species” at the Western Australian Orchid Spectacular & Conference 2008 in Perth next month. The lecture will include excerpts from his book, The Classic Cattleyas, co-written with his father and published by Timber Press. The event, which runs from Sept. 26 to Sept. 29, features speakers from around the world as well as international vendors and a judged orchid show. Art will be the closing speaker, Monday Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. He will be presenting a slide show on the famous ‘corsage’ orchid of the 1940’s, the Cattleya, identifying the South American jungle species that started the orchid craze. Art last spoke internationally at the 2005 World Orchid Conference in Dijon, France. He has a monthly orchid advice column in the Richmond Times Dispatch and recently appeared on the Martha Stewart TV show. The company, which was founded in 1989, has 10 greenhouses in Powhatan County and a retail store in Richmond.
