A Glen Allen resident charged in Powhatan with the attempted murder of a Virginia State Police officer will undergo evaluations to determine his competence and sanity.

Neal Thomas Wooldridge, 41, is accused of trying to run over Trooper Otis Jackson during a police chase March 3.

The chase started at about 2:30 p.m. when Wooldridge refused to pull over for a traffic stop on Route 288.

The trooper pursued Wooldridge to a residence on Huguenot Springs Rd., according to the trooper’s incident report. There, Wooldridge allegedly tried to run over the trooper with his vehicle.

He is charged with attempted capital murder, felony eluding police, possession of controlled paraphernalia, driving with a revoked license and speeding 108 in a 65 mph zone.

In asking Judge Paul Cella to order the mental evaluations, defense attorney Anastasia Jones said Wooldridge is “definitely not happy” about the motion, but said the court needs to be aware of her client’s mental state “at the time of the incident and now.”

A motion for bond was denied.
