Have a hankering for a latte, an espresso or a café Americano?  Now you can get one without leaving Powhatan.

Last week husband-and-wife-team Jennifer and James Roberts opened Courthouse Coffee & Creamery, in the space last occupied by Two Fellas.

In addition to espresso and coffee drinks, the shop also serves Hersey’s ice cream and a small assortment of pastries.

Jennifer said she’d wanted to open a coffee shop in Powhatan for about a decade and when she saw a space available across from the County Administration building and smack dab in the middle of the Village, she figured it was the perfect location.

Growing up in Southeast Alaska, Jennifer often went to Seattle for long weekends, and since moving east she’s missed the proliferation of local coffeehouses to found in the Emerald City.

In true Pacific Northwest tradition, Courthouse Coffee offers locally-roasted beans, which come from Broadway, Virginia’s Lucas Roasting Company. The shop also provides complimentary Wi-Fi and a large chalkboard where residents can leave notes for one another, or kids can occupy themselves while their parents enjoy a café mocha and the morning paper.
