The Commonwealth dropped all charges Friday, against a woman accused of sneaking a handcuff key to a prisoner.

While working as a nurse at James River Juvenile Detention Center, Karen N. Peregoy came into contact with Joseph Lee Parrish Jr., an inmate, and was asked to smuggle him a key.

Among other charges, Parrish was there awaiting trial for murder and malicious wounding in connection to the June 2008 shooting death of 18-year-old Tahliek Taliaferro.

In statements to investigators, Peregoy said Parrish coerced her into helping him by making threats on behalf of the Pagans, a motorcycle gang he claimed association with.

Peregoy, of Sandy Hook, Va., told investigators she bought the handcuff key on the internet.

“Google it,” Detective Kevin Wolfe told the court in August. “You can get [a handcuff key] right on the internet.”

According to August testimony, prison officials “found the key on the floor of the pod with [Parrish’s] other personal effects,” said Wolfe. Wolfe said officials also found a letter Parrish wrote outlining an escape plan, complete with plans for a cell phone to be located outside the facility.

Friday’s hearing lasted less than two minutes and afterwards defense attorney Don Denton said his client had no comment on the case.

John… I don’t think it was said the key could not be purchased online….  As far as the Pagans go.. they are not known to go after someone like this.

As far as the Pagans, oh yes indeed they were a very rough and tough group of motorcycle riders that you did not want to mess with. To the person who says you can’t go online and buy handcuff keys—google it baby, you can.  As far as the young lady involved, I think she did do it out of fear.  Put yourself in her position.  The pagans are really not someone you want to mess with at all or have them after you. Consider the who was threatening and what he has done already.  I think she is telling the truth.  Parrish, I hope you get all that is coming to you and more.  Tahliek rest in peace man, you are missed.

HD… You don’t make any sense. When was the last time you heard of the Pagans?  I asked someone this weekend just how bad they were/use to be…

They said back in the day, they were not a group to be scared of.  It is a name… Why didn’t the Pagans help lil Joey hide out?

I bet he doesn’t know one.  I have not heard of them in years.

Her name is mud. I don’t think she will get her job back or sue.  She should have just gone to the police in the first place.

Are you serious?  Does this also probably mean that she will now sue for back wages and get her job back.  If she’ll do it once she’ll do it again.
Unbelievable
