One injured in shooting, suspect committed suicide Published: March 25, 2010 By Michael Copley Powhatan deputies responded March 25 to a report of gunshots fired at a residence in the Walnut Creek subdivision. Shortly after 7:15 p.m., deputies found a female victim with a gun shot wound to the leg, Sheriff Greg Neal said in a press release. The victim, who went to a neighbor’s home after being shot, said she was shot by her boyfriend. Deputies tried apprehending the suspect at his residence. The suspect failed to respond verbally to deputies and telephone calls from family members went unanswered, said Neal. According to the press release, while trying to locate the suspect, a gunshot was heard “from an upstairs room.” At about 11:45 p.m., deputies and members of the Virginia State Police Tactical Team found Jimmie O. Dibble, 38, dead in the house. He died of a self-inflicted gun-shot wound. The female victim was transported to MCV Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. |

Dude I lived in Powhatan and while yes they do have alot of issues, the Sherif’s Dept. isn’t one of them. I have never and I mean NEVER had one issue with the Deputies or the State Police there. Any encounter I have had with them has always been pleasant and they have always been fair and impartial. The only ppl that seem to have issues with them seem to be the ones who are up to something. If it wasnt self inflicted then why did they wait until 11:45pm to enter the house!?! Oh wait…thats because the police (which consisted of state and local guys) were down stairs when he shot himself in the upstairs bedroom and retreated thinking he was shooting at them. They waited for back up and then went in to find a SELF INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND!! You really have some nerve putting your 2 sense into something you know nothing about!! wonder if it was really self inflicted, “doubt it” !!!!! i mean you know HAVE BADGE IN POWHATAN DO WHAT YOU WANT, THEN BRING IN A STATE BADGE AND GET AWAY WITH IT, and if anyone questions it they’ll lock you up for any ole reason, now that’s what i call “JUSTICE” oh! don’t forget a comm attorney and a judge to go along!!!
