Phase II of comp plan will be focus of July 17 symposium By Roslyn Ryan
Jul 09, 2008 Powhatan County will be holding a Citizen Working Group Symposium and kickoff meeting for Phase II of the Comprehensive Plan Update on Thursday, July 17 at the Powhatan Village Building. The meeting is expected to run from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will feature presentations from the citizens working groups that have been meeting over the past year. According to county Planning Director Brandon Stidham, the meeting will feature input from county supervisors, as well as from representatives of the consulting firm hired by the county to handle the next phase of Powhatan’s comprehensive plan revision. An informal barbecue supper will be served at 5 p.m. before the formal portion of the meeting, said Stidham. The Planning Commission met Monday at the County Administration building, where they held a teleconference with consultants Roger Walden and Greg Dale. Walden and Dale outlined what they perceived as the top seven issues facing the county right now, including what to do about development along Route 711, and how to ensure that the county has a solid plan for public utilities. The group also looked at ways that the work of the two citizens working groups which are still actively meeting, the Huguenot Trail Advisory Committee and the Transportation Study Group, can also be worked into the new comprehensive plan.
