Plane goes down in Powhatan Published: February 17, 2012 By Roslyn Ryan Powhatan emergency services personnel responded this evening to reports of a small plane down near the intersection of Old Buckingham Road and Route 609, arriving to find a Cessna lodged in a roadside ditch. The pilot, who was not injured in the crash, reportedly told rescue workers that he had been forced to make an emergency landing after experiencing engine trouble. According to Powhatan Fire officials, there were initial concerns about a fuel leak from the plane, which typically carries around 40 gallons of fuel. Fire crews were able to neutralize that threat and no other damage was reported. Powhatan Today will continue to provide more details about this incident as they become available. |

That guy is blessed and must be one hecuva good pilot to have missed the power lines, the street light, houses, & traffic, especially at that time of day, plus neither he nor anyone else got hurt. Awesome! Darrell G

ponz, Not sure, but they may have worked all of that into the Village Study to go next to the new MegaPalace. Also very grateful nobody was hurt on the ground. Considering the area, it could have been much worse. Taxed to Death of Powhatan

This guy is lucky to be alive, not made light of. That area isn’t conducive to low-level flight—-with all the electric lines that criss-cross. ponz

This guy had no proper place to land in the entire county. A nice vintage pop machine with the glass see through doors sitting all alone outside the building would really make a statement. I’m also thinking at least two 777 capable runways to provide for around 40 years growth out here. We can layout the terminals for just 12 gates now with future expansion for some cost savings in the current economy. We could easily include some greenspace and make it real sustainable by using CFLs on the runway. We could get the kindergarteners at the elementary schools to come up with some watercolor concept paintings. But in all seriousness, i’m glad no one was hurt.
