Powhatan County’s Attorney to resign at end of the end of the year

Powhatan County Attorney John Rick will resign at the end of this year “to concentrate on personal interests,” Carolyn Bishop, county administrator, announced today.

“He is leaving us to work on other things he loves but has been unable to pursue,” Bishop wrote in an email.

Bishop praised Rick for his “knowledge of the multitude of legal issues which confront the County,” and said he has been “exceedingly valuable over the years he has served the government.”

Rick has been the county’s attorney for the past 13 years; he held the same position for three years during the mid 1980s.

Rick said he plans to continue with a private practice based in Powhatan. “I’m resigning,” he said, “not retiring.”

The resignation will take effect December 31, 2010.

From all my experiences, John Rick is one of the most intelligent, caring and dedicated individuals I have ever met.  I am confident he will be missed by many of us as representation for our wonderful county.

Good luck to you Mr. Rick in all of your future endeavours.

Thank you also for doing a thankless and highly stressful job for many years for the citizens of the county.

Best wishes to Mr. Rick for the future.  Considering all of the Mickey Mouse local politics he had to deal with, I think he did a good job as County Attorney.

Good, maybe his replacement will have more legal principle than” it’s perfectly legal” when his opinion is asked for.
