Powhatan search warrant leads to arrests, residents held on drug and firearms charges Published: July 16, 2009 By Michael Copley, Staff Writer Updated July 22, 2009 The Powhatan Sheriff’s Office arrested three county residents Tuesday night, July 14, and seized suspected marijuana, cocaine and firearms from a home on Mountain View Road. Powhatan Detective Kevin Wolfe said Timothy Watson, 24, Todd Watson, 21, and James Earl Porter, 20, were arrested without incident Tuesday night around 11:05 p.m., when detectives, patrol officers and members of Powhatan’s tactical team executed a search warrant at a home in the 2300 block of Mountain View Road. According to Powhatan crime analyst Ann Reynolds, Porter is charged with possession of marijuana; Timothy Watson is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm while in the possession of a controlled substance and sale/distribution of marijuana; Todd Watson is charged with possession of a controlled substance and sale/distribution of marijuana. Timothy Watson’s bond was posted at $20,000 Friday and he was released ahead of a September 18 hearing. According to the Powhatan General District Court, Todd Watson was re arrested Friday, July 17, for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. He was free on bond after being arrested July 14. Ann Reynolds, of the Powhatan Sheriff’s Office, said Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received reports Friday of a vehicle being driven erratically. Patrol deputies responded and arrested Todd Watson. Blood samples were taken and sent to the lab for testing; results have not yet come back on those tests. His bond was revoked and he is being held in custody. James Earl Porter elected to retain his own lawyer and he is due back in court August 21. |

Well this does not surprise me. I mean marijuana has been discovered to be a miracle treatment for many diseases like epilepsy , and I hate that because of addicts and abusers that need a narconon treatment, it is illegal. REALLLLYYYY

That really goes to show how much you know. They live in Powhatan the country just because they have guns and drugs dont make them dealers. Just about everyone in the county owns a gun my whole family atleast owns two. Thats just rediculous. and people make mistakes they wernt selling drugs and yes i know this for a fact because I was there alot and they were really close friends of mine. you have no idea what your talking about at all. So before you make assumptions like that do your research. Kthanks Miranda G of Wales, UK

I think marijuana isn’t as a bad as cigarettes or alcohol, but I also think that the question of legalization must be well evaluated. Porter and Timothy Watson are clearly drug dealers since they had cocaine and guns, and I think it’s best that they got arrested, but for the casual pot smoker the arrest and criminal record are just cruel. I met several such people in Vista Bay drug rehab while I was doing my internship there, that’s why I think decriminalization is the way to go. There’s no need to have coffee shops like in Amsterdam but I think the proper punishment for your average pothead should be a slap on the wrist. Powhaclown

I really dont understand why people are making a huge deal out of any of this… Go look at all the past articles in the powhatan today there are so many people around here convicted of selling drugs and such but just because its the Watson’s its a huge thing. Get over it. Stuff happens. Honestly none of them are bad people. Just because they got in trouble for something like this shouldnt put a mark on them forever… I’m sure plenty of people on here have family members friends ect. that have made mistakes and gotten in trouble but you dont look down on them do you? Funny how that works. People just need to get over all of this. It’s pretty much done and over with anyways. And everyones worried about the Watsons and selling drugs and doing drugs when theres people out there raping little kids and getting like 5 years in jail. There are bigger problems in the world to worry about than what the Watsons are doing so grow up and get over it, it’s their life keep your comments to yourself. Their really not bad at all… megan

I use to be very good friends with all the watsons a few years ago. They have been the same since i have known them. They have not always had the best reputation but you cant base their whole family on what a few of them have done wrong. Everyone has their faults. Some people just make more of an effort to fix them. We had our great partying days and most of my friends along with me, have grown out of them and moved on to better things. But unfortunately some people never grow out of those immature adolescent years. I saw this coming years ago and dont really know why it didnt happen sooner. Hopefully they have learned from their mistakes and will change their habits once this is all over with. If i were todd I would try my best to get out of powhatan, away from this horrible rep he has built and try to wipe the slate clean and have a fresh start at life elsewhere. If anyone learns from this i hope it is him. As for the other two, they are pretty hopeless. I certainly do not wish bad for anyone and I believe justice will be served and everyone will get what they deserve. good luck Dec. 19, 2009, 05:36 AM
I have yet to see someone say that there were no drugs found. I mean, they may have been “ratted out”.. but that still does not explain why illegal drugs were there. phadestar of BoCo via Ptown

Its amazing how many clueless people this world still has to offer . I don’t live in Powhatan anymore and haven’t for the last 10 years , but I still keep tabs every now and again by reading the Powhatan Today online . It seems to me that there are to many comments on here from people that think they are some higher class of citizens in good ol Powhatan County . I agree with the possession of Cocaine and think the three boys should have to pay if they were selling it , but not if it was for personal use. Who are we to sit here and judge how somebody lives there lives . I know I am not perfect and I know for a fact that anybody that posted on this article is far from perfect. The possession of Marijuana I feel is not a crime anymore in todays times . With a huge push for Decriminalization in most of the states and the push by the medical community to start utilizing its medical side the days of ill informed masses is soon to be over. California has just now started taxing the Medical Marijuana Clinics and there economy is about to get a multi-million dollar boost into there economy next year. As other states start to see the kind of Revenue made in California , they will not be far behind. So I guess what I am saying is that most people are going to have to realize that Marijuana is not the drug that your D.A.R.E teachers scared you about . The plant has many attributes and they are just now coming up to the surface . thank you and have a good day from Boulder,CO Submit Your Comments Below |
