Contributed report

The Powhatan Women Republican’s (POWR) are excited to present their fourth annual “High Tea” to be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Father Val Hall on Batterson Road in Powhatan, Virginia.  Mr. Adnan Barqawi, previous speaker at the Virginia Republican State Convention (2009) and Former Regimental Commander for the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, Senator John Watkins, Delegate Lee Ware, and WRVA’s Doc Thompson will speak at the event.  The POWR Tea has grown in popularity over the past three years drawing well over one hundred people in 2010.

“Conservatives, Virginia Tech Enthusiasts and Doc Thompson fans will not want to miss out on this year’s Annual Tea.  Our delicious home baked goodies and freshly brewed teas will be as splendid as always, but this year’s highlight will be honoring our local Vietnam Veterans who are some of America’s greatest heroes of today,” says Lisa McNerney, co-president of POWR.

The traditional High Tea will serve an array of freshly brewed teas along with a variety of locally made, fresh baked goods and hors d’oeuvres.  Throughout the event, a silent auction will take place featuring gift baskets, an original artist rendering of the Maury Monument in Richmond, VA, patriotic items, a bound and signed version of the Attorney General Cuccinelli’s health care lawsuit on behalf of the State of Virginia, plus hot technology items like the IPAD!

If you are a Powhatan Vietnam veteran and have not yet heard from a representative of the group, please contact them so that a special guest ticket for you and your spouse can be provided.  For all others, tickets for the event are $10.00 or $25.00 to include a one year membership in POWR.

For tickets, please contact the group using POWR08@comcast.net or call (804) 304-6622 or visit their Facebook page, Powhatan Women Republicans or POWR.  Father Val Hall is located at 2480 Batterson Road in Powhatan, Virginia adjacent to Saint John Neumann Catholic Church.

AA - why don’t you just attend next time and see for yourself and post some first-hand knowledge?  I don’t think that submissions like a press release require a degree in journalism.

Amazed-Submit a follow-up story then if it was more than a political meeting (or even if it wasn’t), I’m sure PT will print it.  They seem to like the contributed reports submitted by non-journalists.

AA,

No follow-up because it was just a fundraiser/political meeting?  Were you there?  Do you know what those ladies do and did?  They honored our veterans and they use a lot of the money earned for other outreach projects for other veterans like the World War II veterans.  There were great speakers there who should be considered big news in Powhatan and they have great speakers every year.  It is far more than a political meeting and worthy news.

“Wondered why no followup coverage is last week’s paper?  Not sure why website is not updated for the last edition?  Mr. Publisher?”

What kind of update do you want really?  Seems it was just a fundraiser/political meeting.  And maybe there’s no update because it’s not really news, more like a community announcement.

Sorry I was unable to attend, but had prior commitment. Wondered why no followup coverage is last week’s paper?  Not sure why website is not updated for the last edition?  Mr. Publisher?

Thanks Ladies for recognizing the Vietnam Vets.

thanks,

A bound and signed copy of Attorney General Cuccinelli’s lawsuit regarding President Obams’s health care plan?  Let me know what it brings.  I have a copy of an old brief from one of the Prince Edward school desegregation cases, and maybe I could sell that at your next silent auction and hit the jackpot.
