Prize-size produce? Dessert to die for? Fair organizers say: Bring it on
0 CommentsPublished: July 08, 2009 Contributed report Local residents interested in winning a blue ribbon at the Powhatan County Fair can still pick up exhibit packets at numerous locations throughout the county. Whether you enter that huge tomato from the garden or whip up grandma’s delicious pound cake recipe, it’s easy to enter an item. The Powhatan Fair opens August 18th and runs through August 23. Exhibit booklets have been distributed to area businesses, including the pharmacies and grocery stores, as well as the public library, county administration building and Powhatan Extension Office. Entry forms, rules and class divisions are explained in the booklets, along with the times and place to drop off items. There is a separate exhibit section for youth and adults. There are three youth divisions separated by ages, five to eight year olds, nine to 13, and 14 to 18. New to the fair this year is the Virginia Egg Council’s “Angel Food Cake Dessert” baking contest. Information on the baking contest is also available with the exhibit booklets. Desserts will be accepted on Wednesday, August 19 between 4 and 6 pm. On site registration will be at the Exhibit area when you drop off your dessert.The top three winners will have a chance to compete at the State Fair. Winners will be announced August 19th at 7pm at the Fair Grounds.
