Two houses on Genito Rd were broken into August 3- one in the 2000 block, the other in the 2100 block-  bringing to nine the number of homes burglarized in Powhatan since July 1. The sheriff’s office is urging residents to be on the look-out for suspicious activity.

More than a dozen guns were stolen during the burgalries yesterday, the sheriff’s office reports.

Thieves have broken into houses on Ballsville Rd., Powhatan Lakes Rd., Petersburg Rd., Stavemill Rd., and a home on the western end of Three Bridge Rd.

A resident last week witnessed two people break into his home on Timber Trace Rd.

One was described only as a black male with “long cornrows;” the second person was described as a female of unknown race. The pair left the residence in a small to medium-size black car.

Jewelry, electronics and cash have been taken during the recent burglaries.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 804-598-5656 or Powhatan Crime Solvers at 804-403-4357.

I had a white man in small black older car come up and ring my door bell at around 10:30 Oct 10th. If I don’t know My house alarm was on so I just waited for him to drive off. I have ADT signs everywhere and there was one propped up on the front door. He did not leave a business card or flyer. There was a car parked in the driveway. My house was broken in last Oct 2009 so I am not taking any chances.

On Oct 7th two houses in Genito West were broken into in the middle of the day. A neighbor saw items being taken out of the first house and called the police. They were gone when police arrived and kicked in the door of a 2nd house where someone was home upstairs and they ran. Two white males in their 20’s driving an older model Chevy Caprice. Got this info from a neighbor who was warning the rest of us. Just want to inform others. Sounds like these guys have a police scanner if they were brazen enough to go to a second home in the same neighborhood.

Just read the new article on the burglaries on Sept 21. I had called the sheriff after two black males came a knocking on my door 12:30 in the afternoon. I did not answer but had the TV on loud, car in the driveway. They looked like thugs in tshirts, baggy shorts and sneakers, they were not selling anything. After a couple weeks I called the sheriff and he claimed they knew who was committing these burglaries and were about to make an arrest. I tried to tell him there were more than one group as the description did not fit the guys that came to my home. He tried to tell me the guys that knocked on my door were with ADT. If so, it was to drum up business as I have since reinstated my security system with a monitoring company. I sure hope they catch these jerks or someone catches them in the act and takes care of them for good!!

After the Times-Dispatch runs the news that these losers have been caught, everyone let their guard down and ANOTHER house is robbed on 9/21!!!  This is definitely a bigger operation than everyone thinks. We need the Powhatan Today to get up to the minute details of all these crimes out there so that citizens can be on the lookout for themselves and their neighbors.

i feel that this is two groups, someone broke in our place that is way down in the woods, pretty brazen, someone is going to find this folks in their building and take care of this problem, the deputy that came to our house said it right “3 deputies for 250 square miles, do the math.”  security is everyones business better to call the police

The first week the warning was in the newspaper I questioned why they did not note a location for the breakins.  Seemed basic info to me for a news report?  And the newspapers are always pushing their freedom of information agenda?  To me sometimes that push is more with crimes where the information should be protected.

I actually live on Timber Trace, and I heard this; At around 6 to 7 o’clock in the morning a teenager heard knocking and beating on a door ,but didn’t get up(he was home alone). The people broke in the door then raided the house. The teenager hid in the closet, after he peered downstairs to see what was going on, while talking to the police describing the black suv and the suspects, an african american man and women. The house that got broken into is hidden on my road, and very hard to see. My daughter and her friends are terrifed to stay home since most of their parents are at work early in the morning. PLEASE CATCH THEM so my family can feel safe.

It would be nice to know what types of houses are being targeted. Did any of the houses have security systems? What time of day do these break ins occur? Are these houses in plain view of the road are hidden behind trees? How are they getting in?  All of these MO’s would be helpful in educating residents on how to better protect themselves.
