On Jan. 25, at 11:16 a.m. firefighters were called to a house fire in the 1300 block of Schroeder Road. Engines 2, 1, Amelia Engine 4, Rescue 2, Tankers 2, 1, and Amelia Tanker 4 responded. Engine 2 arrived to find a house fully involved with fire coming out the windows, through the roof and fire spreading across a field towards the woods. Since the house was a total loss when they arrived, the firefighters went to work stretching hose lines to protect exposures nearby. A second alarm brought Chesterfield Engine 16, Powhatan Tanker 4, and Brush 1 to help fight the house fire and to cut off the spreading field fire.

Engine 1 set up a draft sight to fill tankers at the pond on Schroeder Road while tankers 1, 4, 2, and Amelia Tanker 4 hauled about 10,000 gallons of water to fight the fire. Rescue 2 responded to assist with staffing and to fill used air bottles for the firefighters. Everyone escaped from the house without injury but the house was a total loss.

No firefighters were injured and the cause is under investigation. Firefighters cleared the scene just after 2 p.m.
