Search for new administrator may involve more community members Published: January 21, 2012 By Roslyn Ryan * This story has been amended to reflect a change in location. Both Monday and Tuesday’s meetings will be held at the Powhatan County Administration Building in the Large Conference Room. As the search for Powhatan’s next county administrator continued last week, the committee charged with the task of finding qualified candidates was working to figure out its own next steps. Perhaps as important as anything, “we need to define crisply what it is we are long for,” said Tucker, who joins District 1 Supervisor David Williams and Fire Chief Rick Bucher, the community representative, on the committee. Before even beginning the work of finding a new administrator, supervisors first had to agree on who would make up the committee. District 2 Supervisor Billy Melton’s suggestion to include a community representative was initially met with skepticism by some board members, but District 2’s Jason Moore said last week that he supports bringing in additional members at some point in the process. “I do not support citizen work groups,” said Moore in an e-mail sent January 17, “but in this case I think it would be a good idea to have a business person, a constitutional office, a department head and maybe someone from the schools to help whittle down the candidates for the permanent county administrator to the last three, five or 10. The new county administrator will need to work with all of those parts of the community and their input would be helpful.” According to Tucker, the group hopes to have an interim county administrator in place by the end of January and to have a permanent administrator hired by June 1, 2012. The group is expected to meet in a closed session to discuss the matter further on Monday and Tuesday at the Powhatan Administration Building (closed sessions of the board, conducted during public meetings, are allowed by law for, among other reasons, the discussion of personnel matters.) Powhatan Finance Director Jerry Whitaker is currently serving as the acting county administrator. He officially took over on Jan. 9, after the board voted 3-2 to accept former County Administrator Carolyn Bishop’s resignation. |

Thank you for your response. You may be on to something. Maybe to some people he comes across as being smart. Some high school kids come across as being smart too, but I’m not sure I’d want to vote for a high school kid. And maybe his brand of service does suit the people in his district. I’ve heard another observer make that same comment. Not my district, not my brand of service, however. Darrell G

Mr. Mills, I’m really starting to like you. Shrewd and quick. I wouldn’t read too far into it though. Gary Mills

To “All in 1”: Why did people in Moore’s district vote for him over Bustos in the special election, when Bustos was a much more accomplished person? And why was Moore unopposed in the last election? Fact Check of Dorsett

Talk about things to watch. It is okay for her to do that. But ask around at Flat Rock elementary school and ask some of the employees what Dr. Meara had the principal do to certain employees that had Joe Walton stickers on their cars. Please do not take my word for it, just ask. She made the employees take their cars and move them into the back of the school! The teacher (Mrs. Walton) had been parking up front since the school opened. Then Dr. Meara allowed Tim “Greaseball” Gresham to hand out tee-shirts, during working hours on school grounds.Talk about unprofessional. WTH

Thought for sure it would have been Williams pushing for the schools to pick the next administrator since they hated the last lady so bad because she called out their bad math and poor management always way overinflating everything so they would have surplus as in we took too much of your money to start with now we can say we did a good job not hogging it all. Meara who has been in there way too long gave Williams lots of money for campaign and had his name all over her SUV parked outside the central office for all the staff to walk by everyday. Talk about unprofessional. All in 1 of Flat Rock Area

Dr Loveless & Get Real: Finally, someone else gets it. For years I have sat by and been a wall flower to what has happened to our county! This guy is for real. I mean real sad!My wife has worked in the schools for many years. No names please. He was opposed to anthing that did not serve his own best interests. Now he has the nerve to say, maybe someone from the schools to help. This is coming from a guy that just talked about change and what does he do.Go crying back or should I say invite back the very hand that used to feed him. Did he consult Dr. Mouth(I loved that)when he wanted the CA gone.WHY NOW!!! or even suggest it? Is he that shallow? As to my wife working at the schools…Jason is as good as his history, he was part of the clan that allowed Dr. Meara to slide her son-in-law in there in the face of public opionion an policy. Where was numbnu++s when that took place. Yes he has again shown that he is beyond a mommas boy, it would appear that he is still a Meara BOY as well!!! Dr. Miguelito Loveless of The Wild Wild West

To “Get Real”: Jason “I Don’t Have Malpractice Insurance” Moore mentioned the schools because he is trying to curry favor with the supporters of the public schools. It was cheap, stupid political grandstanding. Submit Your Comments Below Commenting is not available in this weblog entry. |
