![]() Taliaferro Taliaferro, 18, was a student at Powhatan High School and a standout on the basketball and football teams. The incident occurred yesterday at around 6:45 p.m., near the Flat Rock area of Powhatan. A second victim, a juvenile, survived the shooting and is recovering at a local hospital. Early this morning, the white Dodge Durango described to police by witnesses was found at a residence in Amelia. Physical evidence relating to the shooting was also found. Police said the suspects are (left to right) Stephanie Reynolds, 19, a 5’5”, 150-pound white female with brown eyes and blonde hair; Ethan Scott Parish, a 5’4”, 125-pound white male, 24, with brown hair; and Joey Parrish, a 17-year-old white male, 5’6” and 130 pounds.
Warrants have been issued for all three individuals for murder, malicious wounding, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. by Mojo Jul. 2, 2008, 05:47 PM Let’s get real people. We don’t care what the families have to say what caused the issue unless they wittnessed the crime. The FACT is a MURDER occured with intent to kill. What counts are the facts. I don’t want to hear anything else but the facts. Yes we all heard who fired the AK-47 and rode in the car. Last time I check this is still the USA where we DON’T condem until proven guilty in a court of law. Granted their time in the FREE world will be short, let’s let the law do their job and not distort the facts. Justis will prevail. We may or may not like the result but that’s what make the USA great. We have the right to speak our minds. Most of the world is void of that option.
by j Jul. 2, 2008, 07:16 AM The shooter should have been locked up for his previous behavior. He taunted and led a child to a place to kill him what a coward. How could anyone defend him. family wake up your son daughter, cousin killed someone out of cold blood. They will be in jail or hopefully the death penalty they deserve.
by Deborah of South Hill Jul. 2, 2008, 06:37 AM I am glad that all have turned themselves in. I also would like to hear about the other young man that was shot. Why has noone else said anything? Doon’t you all realize that that family and boy is also suffering and need our support? If anyone knows about him please do an update! My prayers are with everyone but I think all 3 need to pay for what they did. We do need to wait until the facts are all in.
by RA- Powhatan,Va Jul. 1, 2008, 10:02 AM You know, how can everyone say that all 3 should be put away for life??? are you wishing upon the same thing happening to them that happened to the boy who is no longer with us??? Then you are just like the one who pulled the trigger… How dare you “S- of powhatan” say that you feel nothing for their family, why hold the parents at fault for the son apparently they could not control???? Sometimes it is not in how they are brought up but who they hang around.... how dare you that is like someone saying they feel no remorce for Talieks family. And another is how can you people sit here and say that all 3 of them deserve “death penatly, life in prison/..etc”??? Who is to say that Stephanie had or knew anything of this??? and then when it happened she was terrified and scared. Yes it is a crapy situation but everyone needs to not jump to conclusions about everything until the facts come out.... Also if Taliek was suck a great and wonderful kid that had no problems with anyone, then why the incident in 2006, why get suspended from middle school fighting Joey, and why get in a car to follow them to intitally fight them??? I am not saying that his death is his fault b/c Joey never ever should have done that but maybe he isn’t such the “angel, goody goody” everyone is saying. It is all sad and I feel for both families, one that will never see their son/friend/family memeber again b/c his life was taken from him and one that will never see their son/friend/family member the same again b/c he will probably get life in prison. I pray for everyone involved.
by Troubled but Trusting Jul. 1, 2008, 08:07 AM There is no way that anyone could have attended the service for Tahliek Jamar Taliaferro and not have been moved by the outpouring of LOVE and HEARTFELT ADMIRATION for him and his family. At this time of TROUBLE and HEARTACHE, let us put our FAITH in the LORD, our HEAVENLY FATHER, the one who gave his only SON so that we shall have eternal LIFE. Let us not be concerned with mere earthly things, for those are made of sand and shall crumble and fall. They are destined to fail us because they are of man. Our trust should be in HIM. For the LOVE of GOD through JESUS CHRIST is our ROCK and it is on that which we should stand now and in the days ahead. Tahliek knew JESUS; Talhiek had JESUS in his HEART. Tahliek’s LOVE of JESUS radiated in his smile and in his love of his family and friends. It continues to radiate through a troubled community who grieves with his family but whose trust and faith is in GOD through whom all things are possible. For that we offer up PRAISE and THANKSGIVING. Let us honor Tahliek’s life by vowing to be better people. May we be better friends and neighbors, better mothers and fathers, better sisters and brothers, better servants of GOD. The words at yesterday’s service were spoken from Rev. Beechum’s lips, but they came from A LOVING AND ALL-POWERFUL GOD. While we know not WHY, we do know that HE will give us the power to keep going and to meet each tomorrow with stength and gladness. May Tahliek’s family see JESUS through us as we LOVE and RESPECT them, LIFTING THEM UP in prayer that GOD will comfort them and give them PEACE that only HE can provide at this time. May our actions and our deeds show them the LOVE of a community that shares their loss. We will see Tahliek again. Until we do, let us honor and respect him by carrying on the LOVE of CHRIST that he had in his heart. May we live each day according to HIS WILL, showing others through us the LOVE of CHRIST that they, too, may come to know JESUS in their hearts as Tahliek did. R.I.P. Tahliek #17. Thanks be to GOD. Amen
by jtw Jun. 30, 2008, 07:39 PM First, my respects and condolences to the entire Powhatan community. This has truly been a tragedy. Second, I wish I knew more about these “kids” and their circumstances, because I try to cover these types of scenarios in my classes. It is only fair to tell the whole story with background info to make sure that we, as teachers, can properly present it to our students. Maybe someone elses life might be saved one day. Any help would be appreciated. Stay strong
by s of powhatan Jun. 30, 2008, 07:00 PM The suspects went there with the intent to kill tahliek and he and the other two suspects derserve the death penalty. the other two suspects should not get off any easier than the person who pulled the trigger. if they did not want to be a part of it, they could have gotten out of the car at sheetz when the conflict began. you do not go to a “fight” with an AK-47 to hurt someone. you go there to kill. and to debbie “the sister of the suspects mother” i feel no sympathy for anyone in your family. what kind of up bringing did this child have...when a 17 year old sprays a car filled with innocent victims. obviously a horrible one. your family member is a murderer. he will rot in hell. RIP Tahliek
by Angela Henley of Powhatan Jun. 30, 2008, 03:09 PM The most recent murder (from last week) has affected many of my friends, my friends kids and my community. It will take a long time for healing to occur. Being a small county, almost everyone knows someone who is “connected” to this murder. A cousin, a friends friend, a classmate etc ....... on both sides. This was a TRAGEDY for our county, yet I am proud of the support that is rallying to assist the grieving and the families of those that are affected and mourning. There was a memorial for the 18 year old that was murdered today at noon at our local high school. My DH went by there and said the parking lots were full. I did not attend as I did not personally know the victims but many of my friends were there (both young and old) PLEASE say a prayer for our children & our community as they struggle with what the rest of the world endures daily. We are a sheltered county and I am very grateful that this type of event is “out of the norm” and still does have such a tremendous affect on us. There are many places that have grown accustomed to gunshots, and I am thankful we are not there yet.
by Jennifer of TN Jun. 30, 2008, 02:40 PM You people have no idea what is really going on. There are things that have not been released to the public about this case, so, in all honesty, the best thing to do is back off the situation. I am a family member of the suspects, and no I’m by far saying what they did and got involved in was right, but a one sided story is not the right thing to listen to. I love my cousins, I know the both of them extremely well and I am completely still in shock. I NEVER imagined either of them doing something like this. But, you don’t know people as well as you think. And my heart goes out to the families they have affected, and I hate to hear this happening. But don’t always believe what you hear right off hand. Have we not learnt that by now?
by j of powhatan Jun. 29, 2008, 09:20 AM All of you who are making comments about this tragic death ,for which it is a very tragic thing. The best thing you could do is if you know anything go to the police with your information. Police depts. are not mind readers and they need the help of our community. Alot of you are only hearing what you want to hear. Our police dept. is doing everything they can. What police dept. gives out alot of info, they can only give out a certain amount of info. As I said, go to the police if yiu have more info, that’s your way of helping out with the tragic death of this young man and the other young man injured. My heart goes out to the families of these two. Submit Your Comments Below
