Racist hate groups have corrupted the Confederate flag;  I agree that the flag truly had nothing to do with racism.  Instead, it was the battle flag for a group of traitors banding together to kill American soldiers.  Flying it isn’t simply an insult to blacks - it’s an insult to the brave men who gave their lives so that this country could remain whole!

Yes, slavery is over, but so is the Civil War.  Get over it already!  Are you a Virginian, or an American?

im tired of hearing all the whining….this has nothing to do with black and white…..its rediculous that all the blacks and the naacp are getting involved. stop whining…its also terrible that in todays world blacks think they are owed something because 100 years ago they were slaves….we dont owe them jack,,,and who cares if people got literature from the kkk in there driveway ....theres nothing wrong with the kkk they are a christian group…...the blacks should be help responsible for all the damage hey have done to the powhatan county courthouse area

After reading this post it makes me laugh actually… seriously we did not have only blacks as slaves…read below there were some where white slaves out numbered the black slave - so get off your high horse and get over it…. Is it happeneing now NO- WHO CARES… here in VA african americans were not even our “first” slaves…. so no sympathy here… if history did not happen guess what everyone you wouldnt be here

At Jamestown, Va. in 1611 a group of Scottish women and children were sold as slaves. 7 years later in Jamestown the first Africans were sold in slavery. From 1611 until 1865 people from virtually every society on earth were sold into slavery in North America. Citizens in each of the thirteen colonies enslaved people, but slavery was viewed as a southern institution after the early 1800’s. Along the coastal areas of the South a majority of the slaves were black. In some inland areas whites and Native Americans outnumbered black slaves.

Exactly - to restore the union because the south declared their secession and formed the confederacy.  The confederacy was formed as rebellion against the federal governments refusal to SPREAD SLAVERY.

Apparently.  I had heard rumors of its existence as I grew up in Powhatan in the 80s and 90s.  However this was my first first-hand experience.  I’d like to say I’m shocked, but that would be a lie.  Still saddened and disgusted, but not shocked.
