Spring to be a season of jury trials Published: February 21, 2012 by Emily Darrell Springtime is on its way, and along with warmer weather and allergies it will also bring a higher than usual number of jury trials to Powhatan County. Of the many cases that were set for trial at the February 14 grand jury hearing, at least five are set to be heard by a jury. On April 24 and 25 Marcus Ragland will appear before a jury for the May 2011 murder of Dante J. Holloway. On April 26 Henry Page Jr. will be tried by a jury for a rape that occurred at a house party in September 2010. Page was tried earlier this month, though that trial resulted in a hung jury and was declared a mistrial. On May 8 Andre Jackson will be tried for rape of the same women whom Page was charged with raping. A third man, Etholian Eli Barnes, was also tried in this incident. Barnes was acquitted at a bench trial in November. On May 21 Joseph Greene will appear before a jury for multiple counts of grand theft auto. The trial date for Jason Overbey, who was arraigned for the April 2011 murders of Kenneth William Moore Jr. and Robert Linwood Mann Jr., has not yet been determined, though a motion hearing has been set for April 11 at 1:00 p.m. in Powhatan Circuit Court. |

Wow, sounds like the citizens of Powhatan will be nice and busy this spring. Just remember, if you don’t want to be on the jury, just say “I think we should hang em”. That’ll get you out of Jury duty! I can think of many other things you could say, but none of them wold be appropriate to post on here with our new “Content Police” deleting postings that seem to “Offend” now.
