Contributed report

Jul 02, 2008

This year, the Powhatan Junior High PTO and guidance department developed a Star Student Award. They asked students, parents, and faculty to write about a student who demonstrates positive behavior and good deeds. Two students were chosen from each grade: 7th grader Grayson Hurd and 8th grader Nathena Haddrill.

The school congratulates these young ladies for being such positive role models. Each girl was presented with a $50 check from the PTO.

Inspirational Teacher of the Year Award

imageTwo years ago the Powhatan Junior High PTO established an Inspirational Teacher of the Year Award. Parents, students, and faculty were asked to write about a teacher who inspires them. Overwhelmingly we were told about a teacher who inspires his students to achieve to their fullest potential. The students and parents wrote that Mr. Perry makes learning fun and that he teaches outside the box. They also wrote that he treats all students with respect and takes the time outside of his normal hours to tutor them.

It was a great pleasure to award Mr. Perry with this award.

He received a golden apple trophy and $250 from the PTO. Thank you Mr. Perry for your hard work and dedication to children.
