State and local authorities remain on the lookout for two 17-year-old males who escaped from the Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center around 4 p.m. today.

While Beaumont officials declined to comment on the matter at this time, Department of Corrections spokesman Bruce Twyman confirmed that the two had been reported missing and that the State Police are actively searching the area.

Any residents with information on the whereabouts of the two boys are asked to contact the Powhatan Sherriff’s Office at (804) 598-5656 or the State Police at (804) 379-8645.

More details will be posted at www.powhatantoday.com as they become available.

Beaumont, one of five correctional facilities located in and around Powhatan, houses males between the ages of 15 and 21.

Inmates generally stay at the facility for eight to 12 months before being returned to their home communities.
