Wednesday, May 14

Library Family story hours are held Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30a.m. and Tuesday afternoon at 1:30p.m. for children up to age 5. Library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9 a.m. to 8p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Library is closed on Sundays and county holidays. The next meeting of the Huguenot Trail Advisory Committee meeting will be held May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Fine Creek Baptist Church, 3619 Huguenot Trail. The meeting is open to the public.

Powhatan AA meets every Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Powhatan Village Building.

Friday, May 16

Reformers Unanimous Addiction Program meets every Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. For more information call 598-7556.

Yoga for Stress Relief, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Poses, physical movement, stretching, guided relaxation and meditation. Relieving physical & mental stress, hypertension and anxiety. Literature and information provided. Beginners welcome. For info and reservations call Inlight Yoga 598-0700.

Saturday, May 17

The Little Zion Baptist Church will host Community Day from 12 p.m. to 5:p.m. There will be a variety of activities for adults and children such as tug-o-war, hula hoops, sack races, horseshoes, a moonwalk, pie & cake walk, egg relays, horseback rides and door prizes. A play will be performed by the Little Zion Baptist Drama Ministry. Please come and enjoy yourself with food, fun and fellowship.

The New Beginnings Church cordially invites you to attend an Evening of Sacred Music with hometown product, Mr. Darryl Emerson at the keyboard at 7 p.m. Darryl Emerson majored in religion and philosophy with a minor in music at James Madison University. The concert will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Emmanuel Church Road. A reception will follow the concert in the Church Parish House and a Love Offering will be collected.

Powhatan AA meets every Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Manakin Episcopal Church on Huguenot Trail.

The Powhatan High School Band Boosters sponsors Bingo games every Saturday at the Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad Building. Doors open at 5 p.m. Early Games begin at 6 p.m. with regular games at 7 p.m. For details call Julie Garber at 598-5123.

Sunday, May 18

The Amelia County Garden Club will host a Spring Garden Tour on Sunday, May 18, 2008 from 1:00 -7:00 p.m. Six beautiful gardens including the Memorial Garden will be open. Complimentary refreshments will be served at the Memorial Garden location. Gardens are within easy driving distance of each other. Tickets are $20.00 for all six gardens or $5.00 for each individual garden. For additional info call Carolyn Morris at 804-561-3654 or 804-357-7765. All proceeds go toward the upkeep of the Memorial Garden. Rain date is Saturday, May 31, 2008.

The Powhatan Democrats invite you to join them for their regular meeting on Sunday, May 18, 3:00pm - 5:00pm at the Library meeting room. The Democratic candidate for the 4th District Virginia House of Representatives seat, Andrea Miller, will be in attendance. The meeting is free and open to the public. Tuesday, May 20

Step right up when the Carson & Barnes 3-Ring Circus comes to Powhatan at the Powhatan County Fairgrounds, 4042 Anderson Highway. The circus will host shows at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. You will witness amazing spectacles in all 3 rings at the same time under the massive tent. Get chills and thrills from the daring feats of the aerialists, an Ariel Ballet, 3 rings of Hula Hoop champions and a special performance by our herd of elephants. This year, Carson & Barnes is proud to feature The Mummy Acrobatic Act, showcasing performers from the Asian country of Uzbekistan. The circus clowns will have kids of all ages giggling with delight. The 2008 edition of the Carson & Barnes Circus promises to be 120 minutes of exciting entertainment for the entire family to enjoy.
