YMCA child care offering financial assistance Published: November 12, 2008 Contributed report The Elizabeth Randolph Lewis Powhatan YMCA is pleased to offer financial assistance to those seeking and qualifying for assistance. As we continue to provide financial assistance at our licensed child care sites including Pocahontas Elementary and Powhatan Elementary, we will also extend our program to Flat Rock Elementary School students. Child Care is available as a two-day or five-day option. Our Before and After School programs offer weekly enrichment clubs in each of your child’s interests. Y child care also focuses on character development using the four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Along with club activities and character development, we offer a daily snack, fitness activity, free reading in our reading and quiet area, homework area, free art area, and games and blocks area. With all these options your child will have a blast at the YMCA Before and After school program. A couple parents share the following impact of the Elizabeth Randolph Lewis Powhatan YMCA Child Care program. One mom explains, “My son began attending Pocahontas Elementary School in the fall of 2003. He has been with the Powhatan YMCA Before and After child care and summer care since we have lived in the county and it has been the best option that I have had for child care services. It is convenient and the hours allow me to have plenty of time to pick him up. The most important feature is that the staff has always offered great care for him. He is able to finish his homework, read, and play with the other children so that when I pick him up, his evening is open to be able to have quality time at home. “The YMCA staff has been helpful and understanding and he has done progressively well over the years. The staff has been, to use just one word, wonderful. They have kept me informed on behavior and updated me daily on the great activities he is part of. I really don’t know what we would have done without the YMCA staff at times. I just have to say, that I have not worried one bit about him when I know he is at child care; we have had the best experiences with the staff, during child care as well as with YMCA Family Nights and other Y activities.” Another parent states, “During the past three years the YMCA Before and After School program has given my daughter a safe and secure environment to grow and learn. It was important to me and her father to find a child care provider that we felt was a comfortable fit for all of us. All the counselors and YMCA personnel are very friendly and always make her feel special and part of a group. She has fun with different activities that are provided and feels comfortable talking with the counselors with any concerns or problems; this makes me feel confident with our choice of the YMCA child care services. She has made many friends through the program and these relationships give her a connection with these children during the school day. The values that are taught have been a great benefit to her and our family; respect, caring, honesty, and responsibility for her and others is shown on a daily basis.” |
