Holland, James J. “Jim,”

James J. “Jim” Holland, 76, of Powhatan, and formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., died July 21, 2009.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean F. Holland; son, Gene (Michelle) Holland; daughters, Jamie (Bob) White, Jill (Stewart) Jamison, June Holland; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Jim worked for Dupont for 38 years.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. with a Memorial Mass following at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 24, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2480 Batterson Rd., Powhatan, Va. 23139. Interment to follow in church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John Neumann.

Jones, James Harvey

James Harvey “Jimmy” Jones 69, of Powhatan, died July 13, 2009.

He was the son of the late Benjamin H. Jones and Cassie G. Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Barnett Jones; four daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Maurice Cavazos, Rhonda and Mike VanDenburgh, Michelle and Robert Stinnett, Paige and Arthur Griggs; three siblings and their spouses, Carolyn and Marion Bartlett, Allen and Betty Jones, Brenda and John Kirby; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Vanessa Albanase and Karin Peters, whom he thought of as his daughters.

Jimmy joined the Richmond Police Department in February 1961, where he rose to the rank of detective in the homicide division, retiring December 1996 after 26 years with the force.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rte. 60), Powhatan, and where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery.

Powell, James N. “Jim”

James N. “Jim” Powell, Jr., 81, of Powhatan, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died July 17, 2009.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Charlotte McCullough Powell; two children, Karen Burke (Tom) of West Virginia, and Ty Powell (Lisa) of Midlothian; four grandchildren, one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Cumberland, Md.

Harris, Mary Mann

Mary Mann Harris, 89, of Powhatan, widow of Edwin Harris, died July 15, 2009.

She is survived by four children, Russell E. Harris (Maggie) of Alberta, Lucie Buchanan (Duncan) of Powhatan, Susan Nichols (Frank) of Stuarts Draft, Mary Margaret Dickerson of Powhatan; one daughter-in-law, Laura Harris of Amelia; sister, Ruth Wooldridge of Richmond; 18 grandchildren (the eight grandsons will serve as her pallbearers), 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; adopted son, Lynn Woodcock of Powhatan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, David and Hennie Harris; son-in-law, Norman Dickerson.

The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. John G. Barnes and staff for the many years of care. The family will received Friday at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rte. 60), Powhatan. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Red Lane Baptist Church, Powhatan. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Powhatan Community Church Building Fund, Powhatan Rescue Squad or Red Lane Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Bradshaw, Michael Wayne

Michael Wayne Bradshaw, 57, of 1307 O’Quinn Road, Sanford, N.C., formerly of 2795 Spencerwood Drive, Powhatan, Va., died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at his home.

He was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 3, 1952, son of Doris Jackson Martin and the late William Lloyd Bradshaw Sr. He was preceded in death by his father; stepmother, Mary Conner Bradshaw; sister, Laura Bradshaw Worsley; and brother, Dale Edward Bradshaw.

He was a graduate of Loudoun County High School and was a truck driver for Watkins Motor Lines and Fed Ex. He was a member of the Red Lane Baptist Church in Powhatan, Va., where he served as a deacon. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Friday at the Red Lane Baptist Church in Powhatan, Va., with the Rev. Dr. Michael Curry officiating. Burial will follow in the Dale Memorial Park in Chesterfield, Va.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Jackson Martin of Denton, Texas; wife, Sandra Bosher Bradshaw of the home; daughter, Angela Hallman Womack of Sanford, N.C.; sons, Michael Wayne Bradshaw Jr. and Daniel Oliver Bradshaw of Sanford, N.C.; sisters, Sharon Bradshaw Vargas of Fort Worth, Texas, Ellen Bradshaw Worsley of Gardena, California and Evelyn Bradshaw of Moneta, Va.; brothers, Bruce Lloyd Bradshaw of Elkhorn, Wis., David William Bradshaw of Justin, Texas, Robert Leon Bradshaw of Louisa, Va. and William Lloyd Bradshaw Jr. of Moneta, Va.; four grand-children and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., prior to the services on Friday at the Red Lane Baptist Church. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway, N.C.

Parch, Francesca M.

Francesca M. Parch, 64, of Powhatan, died July 4, 2009.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Parch; three children, Kenneth Parch and his wife, Carla, Shane C. Parch and Mary Heather Parch; two grandchildren, Abby and Stephen Parch; her parents, Kenneth and Mary Nylund of Deerfield, Ill.; and one sister, Mary Kay Koerner.

Francesca’s lasting legacy is that whomever she met instantly thought of her as a friend. Her smile cemented those friendships. Her remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2480 Batterson Road, Powhatan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Powhatan Y.M.C.A.

Stratton, Vernon F.

Vernon F. Stratton, 74 of Powhatan, widower of Ethel H. Stratton, died July 2, 2009.

He is survived by two stepdaughters, Minor Miller and special friend, Clarence Davis, and Marion Leake; two stepsons, Newton and Harold Hodges; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

The family received friends on July 5th at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rt. 60), Powhatan. A graveside service was held Monday morning in the Powhatan Community Cemetery.
