Clark, Troy Edward

Troy Edward Clark, 37, of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Powhatan, died January 17, 2009. He is survived by his parents, Ada and Andy Clark; brother, Jonathan Paul (Tammy) Clark, all of Cumberland; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and devoted friends. The family received friends Wednesday, January 21, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy (Rt. 60), Powhatan.  Funeral services were held Thursday at 1 p.m. Interment Grove Cemetery.

Lipscomb Jr., Wirtley T.

Wirtley T. Lipscomb Jr., 87, of Powhatan, went to be with his Lord on December 25, 2008.  He was preceded in death by his son, Wirtley T., III (Billy).  He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris; four sons and their wives, Warren and Evelyn, David and Debbie, Dale and Dawn, Ted and Susan; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  He was a member and Deacon of Graceland Baptist Church.  He served in the Naval Air Force in WWII.  He was a member of the Powhatan Masonic Lodge.  He retired from People’s Life Insurance.  He also worked in banking and owned his own dairy and concrete businesses and loved gardening.  The family received friends Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the Bennett and Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy (Rt. 60), Powhatan.  Funeral services were held Monday at 11 am in the Graceland Baptist Church, Powhatan.  Interment church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Graceland Baptist Church or Hospice of Virginia.

Southworth, Bonnie Rigsby

Bonnie Rigsby Southworth, 35, of Sandy Hook, met her Savior on December 23, 2008.  She left behind her children, Neal Stone, Jr., Cassidy Southworth; husband, Kelly Southworth; parents, Joyce and Charles Rigsby; siblings, Charles Rigsby, Jr., Cindy (Timmy) Clark; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 pm in the Full Gospel Church, Powhatan.  Interment church cemetery.  The family received friends one hour prior to service in the church.

Drumheller, Herbert J.

Herbert J. Drumheller, 78, of Powhatan, died January 13, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary L. Drumheller; two daughters, Joyce D. Chenault, Margaret D. (William) Hawkins, all of Henrico; two brothers, Steve Drumheller of Florida, Gordon Drumheller of Powhatan; one sister, Shelia Bachelor of Hopewell; six grandchildren, one he raised as a daughter, Nikki Driskill; Kirsten, Matthew, William, James, David and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons, David M. Drumheller and Danny W. Drumheller. The family received friends Friday, January 16th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy., (Rt. 60), Powhatan. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 17th at 1 p.m. at Graceland Baptist Church, Powhatan. Interment church cemetery.

Porterfield, David A.

David A. Porterfield, 42, of Powhatan, died January 11, 2009. He is survived by one daughter, Paige M. Porterfield; two sons, Adam R. Porterfield and Dustin H. Porterfield, all of Chester; mother, Nita A. Porterfield; brother, Douglas Porterfield; sister, Linda Porterfield (Tony Ryan) all of Powhatan. He was preceded in death by his father, Emmitt C. Porterfield. The family received friends Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bennett & Bartden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy., (Rt. 60), Powhatan where funeral services were held at 7 p.m., immediately following visitation. Interment was Friday at 2 p.m. Newport Community Cemetery, Giles County.

Nowlin, Dr. John Burton

Dr. John Burton Nowlin, native of Charlotte, NC and more recently of Powhatan, died Thursday, January 8, 2009. Dr. Nowlin practiced family practice medicine at Duke University and in Southside Virginia until his retirement in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Mary Jones Nowlin of Charlotte. He is survived by his brother, Robert Worthington Nowlin of Charlotte; and brother and sister-in-law, Preston and Carolyn Mason Nowlin of Powhatan. He is also survived by his nephew, Preston Nowlin III and his wife, Judy; and great-nephews, Preston IV, Robert and Clay of Charlottesville; and by his niece, Mary and her husband, Eric Bendfeldt; and great-nephew, Freeman; and great-nieces, Hannah Brendfeldt of Harrisonburg and Amanda Trainum of Seattle, Washington; and by his nephew, Charles Nowlin and his wife, Annette; and great-niece, Joy of Richmond. There was a private burial service on Sunday afternoon, January 11, and a public memorial service at Powhatan Mennonite Church at 3540 Old Buckingham Rd., in Powhatan, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Helfer Project International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR/USA 72202.

Webb, Jr., Percy S.

Percy S. Webb, Jr. 77, of Powhatan, widower of Kathleen “Kay” Sullivan Webb, died January 11, 2009. He is survived by one son, Dean Webb and wife, Sandy; one daughter, Darlene Martin and husband, Jamie, all of Powhatan; one sister, Vernelle Holland of California; seven grandchildren, Cory, Neal, Tyler, Sarah, Eric, Patrick, Karen and many nieces and nephews. The family received friends Tuesday, January 13th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy., (Rt. 60), Powhatan. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 14th at 2 p.m. in Red Lane Baptist Church. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery.
