Published Aug 20, 2009 Meyer, Henry L. Henry L. Meyer, 93, died on August 16, 2008. He was the son of the late Juliet Williams and Daniel Meyer of Norman, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mollye Man Meyer, sister Frances Campbell-May and brothers Charles and George Meyer. He is survived by his sister, Marguerite M. Whitney of California, numerous nieces and nephews who are located over various states; his special caregivers over the years, whose dedication to his needs were exceptional. Upon graduating from high school he worked for the Oklahoma Times until he was called to active duty during WWII, where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Upon discharge he returned to work for the times until he received a job as an auditor for the Veterans Administration in Washington, DC. After several years, he transferred to Richmond. Henry loved his church, signing in the choir, sports, debates and his Cadillacs, but nothing more than his beautiful wife, Mollye. He was a longtime member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. Funeral services will eb held today in the Bennett ad Barden Funeral home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment, Powhatan Community Cemetery. Published Aug 05, 2009 Stone, Hewlett S. Hewlett S. Stone, of Powhatan, Va., died Monday, August 3, 2009, at 101 years of age. He was born in Lexington, Mass., on April 14, 1908, to George Everett Stone and Mary Hewlett Porter Stone. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1925, attended Exeter Academy, then graduated in 1930 from Bowdoin College. He served overseas in the Army during World War II as a Staff Sargeant with the Military Police before retiring to Westminster, Md. to become a grain farmer and raise beef cattle. He moved to Powhatan with his late wife, Adele M. Stone, in 1985. He is survived by two daughters, Susanne S. Stone and Diane P. Mahoney; and two granddaughters, Sarah M. Mahoney and Rachel L. Mahoney. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, at Manakin Episcopal Church, 985 Huguenot Trail, Midlothian. Fox, formerly of Powhatan County, departed this life July 31, 2009. She is survived by her two sisters, Elizabeth Hubbard and Edna Fox; niece, Elsonia Fox; nephew, Lee Fox; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull Street, where funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 5, 12 p.m. Dr. C. Lewis Motley officiating. Interment Maury Cemetery. Published Aug 05, 2009 Venable, Mrs. Josephine Viola Mrs. Josephine Viola Venable, was born on February 17, 1921 in Powhatan, Va. She was called home on July 27, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Venable. She will be fondly remembered for a loving, caring and giving spirit and her love of children. She is survived by her devoted family, including two daughters, Yvonne Venable Charles and Dr. Xochela Venable James; one son, Dr. Demetrius Venable; one daughter-in-law, Geri Venable; seven grandchildren, three granddaughters-in-law, one grandson-in-law, nine great-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter-in-law, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Bell; three sisters-in-law, Claira Venable, Lillie Bell and Esterine Bell; a large number of nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends. The family wishes to acknowledge Mrs. Anna Pitt and the staff of Covenant Columns Manor for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Venable during the last months of her life. Published Jul 29, 2009 Harris, Mrs. Burlean Branch Mrs. Burlean Branch Harris, of Clinton, Md., formerly of Powhatan, Va., departed this life on Friday, July 24, 2009 in Maryland. She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Bellamy (Eric); son, Derrick Harris; stepson, Claude Harris (Maria); granddaughter, LaShan Bellamy; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Bellamy; four sisters, Carrie Richardson, Marion Miller, Marjorie Keys and Tessie Bates; four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; devoted niece and nephew, Florine and Paul Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home of Cumberland. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 1 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan, Va. Published Jul 24, 2009 Orange, Louise Spence Louise Spence Orange, 89, widow of Grayson A. Orange, of Powhatan, made her transition to Heaven on July 22, 2009. She is survived by two daughters, Pat Orange of Midlothian, Sharon Younce and her husband, Cary Philbrick, of Powhatan; three sisters, Gladys Bolling of Gloucester, Elaine Winter of Richmond, Mae Jones (Bob) of Florida; grandson, Larry G. Younce II; two great-grandchildren, Heather Davis, Tyler Younce; one great-great-granddaughter, Bridgett Davis; three stepgrandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren; beloved caretakers, Ingrid Washburn and Pam Crump. The family will receive friends Friday (tonight) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rte. 60), Powhatan. Taylor, 21, of Powhatan, passed away July 18, 2009. They are survived by parents, John A. and Marianne R. Taylor; two brothers, David A. Taylor and John A. Taylor Jr.; two sisters, Elizabeth M. Taylor and Summer Sha Miller; maternal grandparents, Lynoxx and Sylvia Dick; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces. A celebration of Sarah’s and Danielle’s lives will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Bliley’s-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road.
