For better or worse, in sickness and in health, ‘til death do us part. Bob drew his last breath in the arms of his wife on Sunday, May 30, 2010, just three weeks short of their 42nd wedding anniversary. Throughout the past five years, his determination to live life to the fullest, despite the relentless torments of cancer, were a tribute to his spirit and an inspiration to his family and friends, whom he cherished. Anyone in need of help knew he was just a phone call away. Predeceased by his father, William Avis Meadows, he received comfort and support throughout his illness from his mother, Ethel Rakes Meadows. His memory will be forever treasured by his wife, Patty, and through the legacy of his large family, which includes sons-in-law whose willingness to take on many household chores as he grew weaker, brought comfort beyond measure. His children were the light of his life: Robert, Jeri Eroh (Ronnie), Jennifer Adkins (Eddie), Sandy Morin (Matt), Melissa Perry (Tom), Steve (Tiffany), Tim (K.C.), Mandi Mosler (Derrick), Matthew (Ashten), Amber and Michael. He was a beloved Pa-Pa to his grandchildren: Jacob, Mary Kate, Abby, Thomas, Trey, Nathan, Alexis, Brendan, Georgia, Lila, Emily, Noah and Hayden. Born in Beckley, West Virginia, he graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, Virginia, and earned his associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Virginia Community College. He served in the U.S. Air Force, as a Fairfax County Police Officer, and as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Powhatan County, where he lived for the last 33 years, and where he forged many long-lasting friendships. He was a loyal and dependable foreman for Blakemore Construction Corporation for many years until he was no longer able to work. He loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Words cannot express our gratitude for the gentle care of his hospice nurses in helping him make the transition from this life to the next, and for the continuing care and guidance of Hospice of Virginia to his family. Notes, visits and expressions of love and caring from friends during the last few years have brought joy and comfort that was needed so much; thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
