Family thanks community for support during time of need
Published: September 20, 2011

Dear Editor,

Watching a loved one battle cancer is not something anyone wants to go through in their life. Yet, watching my sister, Patti Wood, battle cancer with the support of the Powhatan Community behind her was an incredible experience.
Having spent much of my life in Powhatan I have always known what wonderful people live here. When Patti was diagnosed with breast cancer, the support from the community could not have been greater.
Patti passed away on August 27 and I wanted to thank everyone for their support. Without the help of all these people, I don’t know what Patti and our family would have done.

A huge ‘thank you’ to Lucie Buchanan, Myrtle and Duncan for the wonderful care of Patti and for your friendship with our family and Patti’s friends while she was at Smiley’s Adult Care, Bennett and Barden Funeral Home for their sympathy and care, the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance with traffic at Patti’s service, Powhatan United Methodist Church for their love and their numerous types of support during her illness, Dr. Lynn Prince and the staff at Pocahontas Middle School for the meals, gift cards, planted flower beds and general all-around support, Patti’s former colleagues at Pocahontas Elementary who got together with her once a month for dinner, and to the many others in the community who were always there for Patti.

On behalf of Patti’s family we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The people of Powhatan are the best in the worlds.
Sincerely,
Tom Hening and Family
Powhatan
