Letters to the Editor Published: December 23, 2009 Dear Editor, I would like to thank all the people who came out to the Internet Safety Program at the High School on Thursday December 3. The Elwell family, and the Berman family
Dear Editor, The WalMart orientation scared me. The WalMart employees showed you a picture of the property as it is today. I saw something that made my eyes water for what lay before me on that piece of cardboard was beautiful, undisturbed forest. As I slowly walked forward, the WalMart plans stretched before me. In the overhead view, all I could see was parking lot to the farthest reaches of the map, with a huge building smack in the middle of it all. I know I may only be a 7th grader at the Junior High, but this is my county too, and I do not want anything to do with this WalMart! |

For months now I have kept my mouth shut and I just can’t do it anymore! Powhatan has grown out of control with people and many of the “hometown locals” have profited from this real estate boom! No, I haven’t been to any of the meetings/forums but I do have logic and use reason. It’s too late to think about the forest, because no one thinks about that we allow building of houses and sub-divisions that continue to increase, and many that most can’t afford. And the deer have fewer woods to roam in so they step into the roadway causing accidents and what-have-you! There are a lot of things missing (bakery, clothing, large electronics, shoes, etc.) in Powhatan and it seems as if we continue to let the same kind of venues open up. I am all for growth but 2 Food Lions-less than 5 miles from each other, 4 nails shops, several barber shops and countless hair salons and a host of others that are like businesses; I’m just saying, “LET’S BE FAIR”!
