Letters to the Editor Published: July 21, 2010 Rodeo event is something county should be proud of Dear Editor, I would like to thank everyone that participated in the Powhatan Bullnanza Rodeo this past Saturday. There were thousands in attendance and it was a great night for Powhatan. The Longbranch Rodeo hosts this event every year and it would not be possible unless Jacques Gits donated his time and land for the event. There are a lot of quiet givers in our community who truly enjoy and know the meaning of life. The joy Mr. Gits receives and passes to our county from The Powhatan Bullnanza is priceless. Thank you Jacque. I am proud to be your neighbor. Sally Mullikin
Dear Editor, I have lived in Powhatan for 70 years and watched the people come, and come, and come. They build their homes here, work somewhere else and spend their money somewhere else. This may be okay for them for a while, but when they get older, they will like to have a place to shop close to home. It’s a 40-minute trip to Walmart from western Powhatan and no picnic, especially since John Watkins built Westchester commons. I will continue to shop at the same places that are there now, except for the things I can’t find in the county. Then I will have to make a trip to Walmart. We need the businesses in the county and I am glad to have more than we had 20 years back. I welcome Walmart. Powhatan is my county, not Chesterfield Mary Arnold |

I could not agree more with Sally Mullikins comment about Powhatans Bullnanza & Jacques Gits! What a wonderful giving person he is. The county could use more citizens like him! Thank you for all you do! Submit Your Comments Below |
