Habitat project causing issue for neighbor in Holly Hills
Dear Editor,
It’s 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, and the only celebratory noise I hear is the generator at the construction site of Powhatan’s Habitat for Humanity newest house.
The generator has been running for at least five hours after the last worker left for the day.
This is the third time the generator has been left running for hours after the contractors or volunteers have left the site.
Twice I my wife and I have picked up tools left lying around and secured their equipment trailer.
Good thing we have honest neighbors.
I have concerns for what appears to be lack of responsibility for equipment and fuel bought with donations and through charitable events.
I look forward to the deserving new home owners/neighbors, but we’re not looking forward to two more houses being built under these conditions.
Turn that generator off!

Recycling center is one of Powhatan’s hidden gems
Dear Editor,
I wonder how many people in Powhatan know that there is a recycling center at Lucky’s on Huguenot Trail/Route 711 that accepts cans, paper, newspaper and other recyclables and that the items do not have to be sorted.
This recycling dumpster is privately funded by The Mill at Fine Creek, Lucky’s Convenience Store, Exact Inc. and the members of the Rotary Club.
I would also like to encourage more Powhatan citizens to utilize this service. Apparently, it is not being used very much at all, though we still see trash on our roads. Please help keep Powhatan clean and green by taking advantage of our very own recycling dumpster conveniently located at Lucky’s Convenience Store on Route 711Huguenot Trail.
Sincerely,
