Letters to the Editor Published: June 30, 2010 Local heroes on hand for 4th Friday event Dear Editor, This past Friday night our Volunteer Rescue Squad was gratefully on duty – as they are 24/7 on 365 days a year. Two people attending 4th Fridays fainted due to the extreme heat. The members of our rescue squad reacted so quickly and professionally, we need to thank them again for the job they do so willingly and typically unnoticed for us. Their response was impressive and I know those in need and their families were very thankful they were on duty and took immediate and comprehensive action to help. We don’t always know when and where something unexpected might happen, but know that the Powhatan Rescue Squad will be doing all they can to help us. But please keep in mind, that they need our help as well. They are volunteers and work tirelessly for us! Remember to support them whenever you can with a monetary donation or your time – it is an investment in your community and in yourself and your family. Thanks Powhatan Rescue Squad for peace of mind and for being there! Most sincerely, Tina Bustos
Dear Editor, Re: My point of view dated June 23,2010 Let’s see… A. Fletcher Mangum, Ph.D. is hired by Walmart to “conduct a professional analysis of the economic impact that a new Walmart store would have on Powhatan County” and the results are all positive ... gee what a surprise.
Dear Editor, Let’s see if this idea will work! To date, Relay for Life has raised $159,000. Last year Powhatan raised $166,000. If we can get 571 people to send in an additional $20 each, we can reach last year’s goal. If you want to mail it in, please send it to P. O. Box 579, Powhatan, VA 23139. This is not just a goal, but a fight for a cure for cancer. So many people will not see another birthday because of this dreaded disease and so many have already lost the battle. Let’s do what we can for those we know and love. Ruth Boatwright
