Foot loose of Powhatan

Wear shoes. Flip flops are not shoes. Around the pool or in a public shower they are okay…but noone wants to see your stinky tootsies during class. Try wearing them to your future employer and see how quick you are sent home to change. The school has every right to set a dress code and students apparently have many more pressing issues to deal with. Lester Burnham of Powhatan

Personally I don’t know why we don’t have uniforms, not just in Powhatan schools, but all Virginia schools. Once these young boys and girls have moved on and are in the corporate / business world the type of clothing they wear now will not be acceptable at all, why not get them in the habit now as opposed to later? KNB of definitely not powhatan

@A.T.Harrison seriously? If the school board really wants to make it safer for students, focus on the drug problem or give seminars on birth control (you don’t think pregnancy is a problem in Powhatan? Think again.) Powhatan has always been backward, focusing on insignificant things while the big problems go untreated. There’s a reason why graduating students leave and never come back. AA of Powhatan, VA

I don’t know when they began allowing flip flops in the first place. It couldn’t have been too long ago. We weren’t allowed to wear them or tank tops when I was in school, as far as I can remember. I graduated highschool in 1997. I believe students should wear uniforms, but that’s a whole different can of worms. I feel that if students dressed a bit more appropriately their attitudes towards their educations would improve. A.T.Harrison of 2003 grad - cartersville

I agree with “Nobody”... It’s really more of a safety issue than anything. Even in higher grades, where students take biology and chemistry classes, or even art classes with sharp materials. When someone drops a harsh chemical or an exacto knife or something, it’s a lot better for it to scuff up their tennis shoes than it is for them to lose a toe. Same goes for someone having their foot stepped on in a crowded hallway… Plus have you ever tripped over a flip-flop? Seriously not fun. Nobody of Powhatan

I don’t see why it’s an issue. Students need to get over it. They’ve gotten away with so much in the past that the School Board has no choice but to really become more strict. If they want to blame someone - blame themselves, their parents for allowing them to dress they way they do. For K-4, I understand. I’ve seen a toe injury from slipping on the blacktop. But really - it’s a shoe. Don’t wear them and get over it. Submit Your Comments Below Commenting is not available in this weblog entry. |
