Rocky Ford Road not forgotten
Published: July 15, 2009

Dear Editor:

In this county much attention is given to the condition of Huguenot Trail and Mill Quarter Road. Until recently, Rocky Ford Road, carved into the hills with its blind turns and dangerously narrow shoulders, was largely ignored.

Wanda Escobar, owner of Saddlebrook Stables on Rocky Ford, sadly explained to me how treacherous driving on Rocky Ford has always been.

Her sentiments are multiplied among the many residents along the twisted road.

That scares me into realizing that our children, riding to school in buses, travel on that road every day during the school year. Teenagers learn to drive on that road. The road is dangerous on clear days; it’s painful to know how many drivers are struggling on Rocky Ford Road in the dusk, dark, and during rain storms.

District 2 Supervisor, Charlie Green, is making the safety of Rocky Ford one of his priorities. He was instrumental in including Rocky Ford on the Powhatan County Secondary System Construction Program. To all residents living on Rocky Ford – don’t give up. We feel your pain, and we will fight to see your road made safe.

Marsell Bustos
Transportation Committee Member/District 2
