So, what’s your story?

Here at Powhatan Today, we come by our stories in more ways than you could probably imagine.

Sometimes we ferret them out on a hunch, other times we all but trip over them.

Sometimes they come from a knock on the door or a phone call — or, more likely, as is indicative of the times, via e-mail — and sometimes from a bit of information we gathered working on a completely unrelated story.

Sometimes, admittedly, we track down a story because it just looks cool (I once ended up snagging a ride in Powhatan resident Jimmy Nixon’s ultra light — basically a flying go-kart — because I had seen another person towing one behind his truck on 60 and thought they looked neat. A quick Google search and a phone call was all it took to finagle a ride from Jimmy, which turned into a story about the thrill of seeing Powhatan from the air.)

As many of our loyal readers know, we have a small but dedicated staff here at the paper that works hard to bring you the best possible coverage of our wonderful county every week. I like to think that what we lack in size we make up for in enthusiasm: make no mistake about it, we enjoy what we do and we never stop trying to do it better.

Being a small newsroom does, however, often mean that we rely on our eyes and ears in the community to help direct us towards the issues and stories that mean the most to you, our readers.

We want to hear from you about the people, places and events we haven’t covered.

What is important to you? Who do you admire? What questions do you have about the place you call home?

I hope you will always feel free to drop us a line — or a note, or an e-mail — and let us know what you want to know.

You may not be able to say this about too many things, but, in the community newspaper business, it really is all about you.
