Supervisors made the right call on Route 711 clinic CUP Published: May 04, 2011 Dear Editor, In rebuttal to the denigrating editorial and postings on the denial of the veterinary clinic CUP, I applaud the three supervisors for their courage! Thank you for not “going along to get along” politically, and voting yes. Those who cite the comprehensive plan have not read carefully its important addendum, the Huguenot Trail Advisory Committee’s recommendations. Citing the golf course and the “wedding hall” as grounds for approval opens old wounds and dates from previous commissions and boards of supervisors. Citizens spent two years in examining, debating, and recommending a “best case scenario” for FURTHER development in this section of Powhatan. The independent consultants found its recommendations sound and valid. These are commendable efforts to slow and lessen the modern erosion of two hundred years of history in this area. They sought to mitigate, along with other considerations, the injuries occasioned by the constant stream of cars on Route 288, where deer and other wildlife have been forced away, to ravage neighborhoods, be killed by speeding vehicles, and sometimes to starve. Too, consideration was given to the changes where developers have built neighborhoods along Route 711, thus bringing commuters who travel, at times, fifteen miles over the speed limit along this narrow, two-lane scenic byway, further increasing the likelihood of collisions, particularly at intersections such as Woolridge Road. We wish Dr. Blair the best in finding a suitable location for his clinic, where it won’t be compacted into, and increasing, a danger zone. Thank you very much, Robert Cosby, Carson Tucker, and Joe Walton. It was the right thing to do. Ruth Doumlele |

That’s right…Not in my back yard, huh?? Powhatan is miles behind in sustainable and viable business progress…and it’s killing those of us who actually PAY taxes… You can’t keep coming back to the well…eventually it’s going to run dry… What would it have hurt to have an agricultural/veterinary business in that particular area?? What it WOULD have done is brought in professional business, professional (not to mention monied) patients and clients and (drumroll, please…..) TAX INCOME!!!! VOILA!! You folks who whinged and moaned about this?? Don’t whinge and moan when your tax bill goes up…. Dr. Miguelito Loveless of The Wild Wild West

Cosby was on the Board of Supervisors when the Foundry and The Mill were approved. Maybe the comment about “previous . . . Boards of Supervisors” applies to Tucker and Broadway Joe, but not to Cosby. Submit Your Comments Below Commenting is not available in this weblog entry. |
