I am amazed by these comments. I forgot what the initial question was after reading these comments. This is so very sad. Not just for the people involved but for the people of that community. Now, back to the question do I think this community is ready to move forward? By the look of these comments no one is ready to move forward. I am so amazed at how people talk about how they are not racist and constantly everyone is talking about it, and that is what keeps racism alive. I know racism exist I wish it didn’t, however if this community can embrace one another and learn from this I really do believe that this will be a very strong community. I know that now as an adult I have learned to forgive and understand alot more than when I was a teenager. So, for the adults out there this tragic event has impacted your youth so strongly that they really need the encourgement to forgive and love I mean only we can teach our children and give them the knowledge that they need to understand and learn how to go on with out hatred and hardened hearts. We need to as adults be the first to forgive so that our children can also forgive and still have love in our hearts for all people. Proud Parent of Powhatan

It is really easy to mess up with correcting people spelling - you spelled “separate” incorrectly. Deal with those mangling up the english language. Jeez

The “Someone in Powhatan” comment with “alot” (common usage) is splitting hairs on english/spelling used in this forum. If you want to correct language - you are in a target rich environment. Another Resident of Powhatan

I agree! She is really out of her element. I mean - some of the people she has working for the schools are so questionable - and she doesn’t require drug test. In this day and age. Really. She should re-think those coaching our kids. They are known potheads and drunks. And to consider hiring one as PE teacher; scares me. Makes me re-think living in this county and having my kids attend school here. anonymous of richmond va

I’m tired of it all. I truly cannot believe he received an “honorary diploma” - for what. Maybe if he had died during his senior year, I might understand. Ridiculous. Let’s appease the family to make yourself look good Dr. Meara. Whatever. He and his friends hold some responsibility in this entire sad story but he’s made out to be some sweet innocent which he was not. And neither are the Parrish boys. If the situation was reversed and a Parrish was killed, I wouldn’t feel they deserved anything like that either. Powhatan Resident

Lets not forget it was the same group of boys that jumped a kid at the high school a few years ago. That was all over the news then. The NAACP came down and was upset that the boys got charged for that. I guess it should be ok to stomp on white people heads. That white kid got knocked out and his head stomped on and kicked in the face by this same group. They have a history of violence against the white kids so it is no wonder the white kids were scared enough to shoot that day. someone in powhatan of powhatan

I think we should let this die down and start the healing process. I also think that if you are going to post comments on this space, alot of you need to learn how to spell. Submit Your Answer Below Commenting is not available in this weblog entry. |
