Calender of events happening around Powhatan

Wednesday, Nov. 12

• Family story hours are held Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30a.m. and Tuesday afternoon at 1:30p.m. for children up to age 5. Library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9 a.m. to 8p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Library is closed on Sundays and county holidays. • Computer literate volunteers are needed to staff the AARP TAX-AIDE site at the Powhatan library. This site managed by Mrs. Maureen Emerson, Local Coordinator, prepares Virginia and Federal tax returns, at no charge, for low and middle income taxpayers of all ages with special attention for those aged 60 and older. Volunteers are asked to serve at least 4 hours per week during the tax period February 1 through April 15, 2009.  Tax law and software training will be held in November-December 2008. • The Woman’s Club of Powhatan will meet at the new Armory on Essayons Drive at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 19th. New members are welcome.


Thursday, Nov. 13

• Library family story hours (see above). The library is closed on Sundays and county holidays. If you have any questions please call 804-598-5670. 

• Powhatan AA meets every Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Powhatan Village Building.


Friday, Nov. 14

• Reformers Unanimous Addiction Program meets every Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. For information call 598-7556.


Saturday, Nov. 15

• Powhatan AA meets every Saturday at 8 p.m. Manakin Episcopal Church on Huguenot Trail.

• The Powhatan High School Band Boosters sponsors bingo games every Saturday at the Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad Building. Doors open 5 p.m. Early games begin at 6 p.m. with regular games at 7 p.m. For details call Julie Garber at 598-5123.

• The Goochland Farmers Market will be offering two special Holiday Markets on Saturday, November 15th and Saturday, December 13th from 10:00am-2:00 pm. The markets will be held indoors at the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Western Campus in Goochland (off Fairgrounds Road near 522 & 6). • HOPE Ministry Supper Table will have their pre-Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings serving the needy and the elderly of Powhatan County. Dinner will be served at the Powhatan County Fair building, 4317 Anderson Hwy., between 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. For further information and if you need transportation to and from the Fair Building, please contact Mamie Scott at 382-9154 or Toni Beechaum at (804) 276-1126.  Please join us for FREE food, entertainment by the Little Zion Male Chorus and fellowship. Come early for door prizes.

• “Peace on Earth: An Evening with the Christmas Mother”.  Music, dance, bells and a little magic!  Powhatan High Auditorium, November 22, 2008 at 7:00 pm.  Admission is free-donations gladly accepted for the Christmas Mother.  Sponsored by Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
