Mary Kay Gates

The excitement of working for the YMCA over the past 8 years and raising three beautiful sons has rearranged my personal priorities….and although this is the best wellness place in the world (yes the world because the Y is international!), I have not fully utilized the experience!  And add to the fact that I work in this great place: the equally great staff EVERY year encourage me to join in on the fun of the 10K!

So here I am, with my last baby (18years old and 6’ 1”) going off to college in the fall and I am realizing (actually confronting myself) that the extra many pounds (noticed I am not going to just say “a few”) are still there from 18 years ago!  So, why not confront the pounds, do something fun for myself, make the staff a little happier, and train for the 10K experience!

Game Plan that begin January 1, before I actually went on-line to register for 10K:

Can I run over a mile? Started January 1 running a mile: up to 4 miles twice a week by end of month

Commit the time here or anywhere else I might be: included the YMCA in Nags Head, two hotel gyms while away for the weekend,  running on local Hampden-Sydney track (twice)and son’s apartment fitness room (four times)

If not running, mixing my work out with machines at least twice a week

Goal to do something fitness for myself four times a week! Game plan completed, all areas checked off: registered for the 10K on the 28th!
